Unofficial poll on moderation
Unofficial poll on moderation
Pls no delete.
An unofficial, anonymous poll about ESOC moderation. I am in no way involved in ESOC staff, this is an independent effort.

Results: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... wanalytics
I've always been curious about the opinion of the community when it comes to moderation policy here on ESOC. It's never been allowed to publicly discuss it, which has been frustrating to me because I would like to know what people think. I hope just once the mods will allow it For the record I have no excpectations of things changing as a result of this poll, it's just to gather data.
Please use the "Other: ..." options as little as possible.

Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
What are controversial threads? Climate change = heated discussions, the thread about alt right in US a while back was also heated. First you leave, second was good to close...
Nice idea btw.

Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
There are controversial topics that have never been discussed on ESOC too. Imagine something like "I don't think people under PR 14 should be allowed to post in the strategy section" but not about AoE.
Pay more attention to detail.

Are you thinking of just red-green color-blindness or all kinds?Rikikipu wrote:Gendarme wrote:I wish I wasn't colorblind.

It's a great thing for you to say.
Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
Only did the poll to give Kami and Duck a 5 for moderating
I like Duck's moderating (for example) because he is always very nice, objective, and transparent. Even if there are (rare) times when I don't agree with his moderating actions, I am always able to understand his point of view because he gives thought out, non-superdicial explanations.

Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
When ESOC polls lack features so we need to go to google to get poll results with pie charts.
Also my moderation is really overrated. Half the time I see a report and dodge it. I only moderate when I feel it's blatantly necessary.
Some of the questions were imo tough to answer properly. It's great that we can talk about anything on off-topic however there's a fuzzy line there where "anything" is interchangeable with "spam". Spam itself is harder to define because in the eyes of some people it will be just light banter/talk (which is fine) but that same content will be spam in the eyes of other people. I also think that sometimes we do get people who abuse that fuzziness. I honestly don't have a problem with people talking about pool chemicals or something else completely out there, but I definitely think that the ambiguity (lovely word) has been used in the past to have a poke at moderation staff.
Having moderated on and off since the site's inception, I can assure you that it's the most thankless and annoying thing to do ever. Moderator action can always be (legitimately!) criticized, as can inaction. You can be wrong, regardless of what you do. So I'm really thankful that we have a motivated community team right now. If we're going to talk about moderation, let's please do it as constructively and positively as possible.

@pecelot taking a beating in the polls! RIP
Theres a lot of bias towards pecelot i feel as he is the most prominent member of the community team. It's very underrated the amount of work he puts into ESOC and the game.

It's a thankless job but I am glad it gets done. I think that the approach so far has been quite reasonable

Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
I really like the poll and the discussion here. There is one thing that really suprised me though.
Why does nobody think it's a good idea to actually try to solve grudges? Of course it can be funny, but most of the time I think it's annoying when some users can't discuss something normally, just because they can't stand each other.

Re: Unofficial poll on moderation
Double post because I can.
If you think "moderating as little as possible" is a positive thing, is that also what you think other Community Team members can improve on? Or are there other reasons the different members get other ratings?
Btw I agree with the policy of moderating only when necessary but I wanted to keep the question neutral
