This is really cool stuff and am super excited about the new forum.
I know a ton of work has been done here - but would it be something to use Vbulletin?

We made the decision to use these existing forums because they were already generating a ton of traffic due to the tournament, and a lot of features were already in place so it was a lot less work and we could get it going relatively quickly, which is important. We looked at it for a while and it looks like proboards can offer all the necessary features so there's no need to build a new site.

Got ya.
I presume you are referring to a dedicated server when you are talking hosting. Then yes this is a bit pricier than otherwise.
If you are talking just general hosting - then I have some plans that I am already paying for - and wouldnt mind having this site hosted on. - In otherwords I would be paying for the hosting.

i guess it's tempting to look at other options. maybe if something too good to be true came up then sure.

for the moment though, the site is at least semi-professionally done, thanks to hard work of some warmly thanked people (especially neuron and WC).

when we started this though, the idea was that the forum shouldn't be payed for by anyone. even gs offered to pay for hosting and i just disagreed on the spot. I think that the forum should "belong" to the aoe3 community and that no one should have to pick money out of their pockets. no matter how much of a good person they might be (e.g. robo' i'm sure that you would also selflessly host our site), we shouldn't place any burden on a single person more than is necessary' the free sites allow us to do so

now that we've engaged in hostilities, so to speak, i don't think we should migrate. first off, because this site has already done some work, hosting spring championships and acquiring more members. secondly, whereas proboards might not have the most features or be the easiest board to work with (neuron's a wizard lul, see the navigation bar), it almost certainly within this boards capabilities to do everything we need it to. replays >might< be a problem, but if they ever become one, it's a problem which is in the far future. it's also a problem that money might solve' if we're going to start spending money on the site, we might as well do that when it's already firmly established as community site.

I just hope DE is not going to implement all of the EP changes. Right now it is a big clusterfuck.

Good points, which I agree with.
However, should things change, I hope that you will keep my offer in mind. My intentions are only to give back to the community - much in the samme manner as when I tried my hands at RTSBroadcast.net - I want to see this community kept alive.

Thanks
Chris

I've 2 questions:
If they would replace this forum, would we lose all our past threads and posts?
And one other, I'm curious about the website traffic. Can someone see the daily (unique) page visits? I'm curious if the (full) community found this site already ')

The site is getting about 12.000 pageviews a day now. This doubled last friday when we activated the new skin and told people to spread the word about the site. So it's looking good so far, but we aren't there yet! We still need everyone to plug this site shamelessly any chance they get :)

12,000? I had no idea it was that high, it''s really impressive. The AoE3 subreddit gets about 15,000 page views per month, and I thought I was doing pretty good. Do you have data on number of unique visitors? I''d imagine there''s a higher number of pageviews / user here.

It shows that on the bottom of the forum index, "Users online in the past 24h".

I don't have any stats related to daily active users other than that

Yeah esp. considering there are only around 1.5k players on ESO at peak hour. Where do those extra 6.5k people come from?

Maybe some people just don''t play the game for 24 hours non-stop?

Those 8000 are daily page views as Goodspeed already mentioned. Not unique visitors and not active players on ESO.

Your assumptions are completely baseless. Why should I believe them if you don't have a shred of evidence to back them up?

He's right they are pageviews, not unique visitors.

For daily unique visitors, see the bottom of the forum index. Currently about 130 members and 440 guests.

That evidence doesnt support your view, it only says that you dont know how many unique visitors there are. It could be anywhere from 8000 to 1.

True, I dont know how many unique visitors, but I never said I knew.

We only know the 12.000 pageviews which decreased to 8000. And as I said, it has nothing to do with unique visitors nor active players on ESO.
