Recorded Games Section Having Filters like rts_sanctuary forum
Hi,
I was always looking for a filter in the recorded games section. The current advanced search section is too wide to search and generally the search results are inaccurate.
Example : I just want to look for german vs dutch recorded games, I have no way to select two civs in the current situation, later comes in the patch filters, player names etc.
I m sure we currently have a lot of recorded games , and more to come. An explicit search within those recorded games would be really helpful for players to learn.

Hey, this is a good idea, but it also requires that we have information parsed about the recording. You will notice rts sanctuary has a cool thing that displays information about recorded games.
Long story short, this is a larger ask than it seems. I think we might get there at some point though

First of all we need more recorded games to be posted for this to be desirable.

Works the other way around I think.

I know that this feature needs a lot of info on the rec games, which can only be achieved by the uploaders of recorded games. So the recorded section should have a template form asking all these information like player 1 name , player 2 name , civ1 , civ2 , map , ESOC/RE/Fanpatch etc . (all fields optional i guess , coz ppl are lazy )
Thanks for considering

In the future I think it would be really nice to make a system that encourages uploading and watching games. The RTS sanctuary one was pretty nice for that imo.

Hmm... I think we have a good number of people currently volunteering as ESOC developers and quite a number of RECORDED GAMES to make this feature happen .. What u think ? @H2O_

It's really a difficult thing to implement and it's not like ESOC devs have unlimited time. I think that this is one feature which we can do without at least for the time being. It's already cool that we can upload replays on this site..

I'm not sure how difficult it is to implement this, but the system is already written in PHP, which is the same language in which this forum is written.
It even has instructions for installation:

Since you are reading this, then you already done the first two steps, the download and the uncompress of the files.
The next step is to edit the "common.php" file and define your own settings.
$lv_folder is used to identify the path where the record game files will be stored. Make sure you have the proper permissions on this folder so files can be uploaded.
$lv_img_flag is used to identify the path where the flag images are.
$lv_img_color is used to identify the path where the color images are.
$g_aDescriptions is used to customize descriptions such as civilization names (to your own language).
As last step, make sure you have the required permissions on "keywords.txt" file and directories holding all of the files, so it may be possible to write into.
That's all that's needed, just upload the files.
Also, you should read the notes about the analyse script.

None of the ESOC devs had this. We have in fact recently written a recorded game parser in PHP ourselves based on some other code. May I ask where you got it?
Thanks for posting it though, it will be helpful.

I think I got it from someone from Age Sanctuary, it's the same system they had. It was written by someone else, though, from South America, I believe. It can read the file info from some .rec file headers. It has everything necessary to work, all you have to do is install it and incorporate it in the forum post template, I think.
You could first run it on a subdomain, in order to test it.

RTS sanctuary use an implementation of a script like this, tried implementing it previously wasn't so easy though however definitely possible. It was php based so basic web hosting service should suffice however customizing it might took time. http://aoe3.heavengames.com/downloads/s ... fileid=989

I agree. atm replays posts are just responded with "ego post" and vanish in a mess of recs, there is no reason at all to post recs here.
If devs find time next year imo its a high value feature for the site.
