I propose an amendment to the forum ranking system that we currently have:
1. Make ranks based on 'liked' posts rather than post count.
2. Have a subranking based on # of likes.

These would hopefully reduce the spam on the ESOC Forums.
What are your thoughts?

well i think spamming is not really all of that much of an issue. the problem is some people just generally post low-content quality, which they do on a consistent basis (wont name names)

Adding like option will just increase the hate here on the forums..

I have a better idea.

How about remove ranks and hide post count?

There would be so much drama if this happened Image

Why? It would simplify the user miniprofile by removing all that unnecessary clutter: Posts, Joined date, Contact. Who really needs to see that? There's no useful information there, and if you really wanted to know that, you could just click on a user's name and see their profile.

Not to mention everyone would be just themselves, not a title or a number. The post-hunting mentality is the worst. Instead of actually focusing on the quality of posts, some people just spam yet another post, in the hope this will bring them closer to X rank. Kinda pathetic.

It does kinda show who the active posters are to new members though, for what that's worth.

Idk, Ive grown attached to my post count lol. It's all I have in life.

Liking and disliking posts is not what we really want on a forum. We just want to focus more on conversation.

What's the utility to be jaeger or ninja on the forum, if you don't receive a kind of respect or a real power because of that rank? You don't really need to spam 2000 shitpost, to have a better rank on a forum where people don't like you, lol totally no sense

Agreed. Removing the post count number & rank would improve the forums and reduce the amount of shitposts/spam.

People talk about "shitposting" like it's something everyone agrees with them about. Not every needs should have to conform to your idea of a "good" post.

More posts just for the sake of having more posts = shitposts. My 2 cents. But you guys do whatever you want.

By the way, there is a guy who made a shitposting application on github, if anyone's interested I can give you the link. The whole thing is automated and can increase your (shit)postcount to dizzyingly high numbers. You probably just need to log in and let the app make posts for you, using some algorithms which mimic human logic and writing.

Just imagine, you could have 3000 posts in a few days maybe, without any effort! Not even mental effort.

What a wonderful world would that be. Image
