Late game army composition - Germany
Late game army composition - Germany
As the title suggests
What is the ideal German comp? Without true musks or goons, seems hard to build a good army beyond the fortress timing. It seems like WW aren't really that good past a certain time, but there isn't really anything else besides an Uhlan wall for psuedo-anticav or dopps, which also kind of suck to switch in/out of. Does that just make Skirm/WW/Uhlan the best 3-unit comp?

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
Id consider dopps, weirdly enough. Probably in the end just slightly better than those useless War wagons.
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
You need black rider almost always in there.
I dont know how late is late game, in treaty mode war wagons in age IV with aresnal range and cav combat are pretty good.
Dopps are good with speed ups from church or arsenal

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
If you get to lategame with Germany you just have to outplay your opponent tbh. The only decent unit you can make lategame is skirms (and cannons, but making cannons is questionable in supremacy), so you have to either trap him with skirm/uhlan/dopp or outplay him on the map with raids, which doesn't really work at this point in the game because you're probably both more or less established on mills/plantations.
Your skirms lategame are Royal Guard so you can try to win a skirm war if they don't have any skirm upgrades, with WW just sitting in the back to provide anticav, but Germany's eco isn't the best lategame in supremacy either because you can't really afford TCs or anything without giving up your mid game advantage, and by the time you want TCs you also want plantations probably. For this reason you're probably not really able to outmass them either.
I think your best bet is to set up traps with dopp/uhlan/skirm if you can get some good flanks, it can be difficult or impossible to kite away from.

In team skirm ww cannons do pretty well as lots of civs musk huss late game, uhlans are poor in fights so just use them to raid
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
meh if the games goes past 30 mins I generally like to resign good late game composition with germany.
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
yea unless youre way ahead resigning works well cause german has a bad late game composition with only decent unit being skirms

I think its uhlan+ skirm + 9 black riders. If you are very careful with black riders, they can survive the few battles you have to win convincingly enough to take the game, so you won't have to add more anticav. In some cases you can't send black riders because you are getting pressured, so yeah, war wagons are good at that case.
I've tried uhlan dopp+ skirm many times and it feels like china tbh, but a bit worse

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
WW actually scale well because of their high base stats and many ups. They dont have royal guard up tho and 3 pop is still too much.
Ulhans are great late game and skirm do have royal guard up. Overall Germans miss a stand alone late game unit. Ulhans probably come the closest to that since they have the most ups and are good eco damage dealers.

The game is not always 15-minute-long 1v1

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
Id only dops once u get the speed ups, uhlan are trash lategame
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
Thanks for replies. General consensus seems to be Skirm + Dopp.
With speed upgrades I guess Dopps are decent.

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
Ulhans are the most upgradable unit woth an extra 15% card in industrial. They are easily worth 2 pop. Dopps are ok too but a bit slow and you need to use specific cards to up them (while you are sending cav combat anyway). They also train slower than ulhans.
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
You should never make dopps without uhlans. Those 2 units synergize well together, and dopps are pretty useless without a unit to engage and snare for them.
@Garja, yes, Uhlans are the most upgradable unit you have, and Royal Guard. Unfortunately, though, hitpoints becomes far more valuable for melee units than attack the later the game goes, and Uhlan are just not tanky, even with all upgrades.

They get many upgrades which make them alright, but huss are just better cause uhlans just die so fast vs many ranged units

It's still supremacy without treaty, so most likely you won't have all of those in your deck.
Unless you pick a treaty deck...
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
You actually spare exactly one card as Germans afterall filling colonial, fortress, factories nd one slot for eco theory. The alternatives are another age4 unit card, 35% gathering for SWs or dopp special card.
In team you can spare more.
Also ulhans gotnlegitnhitpoints in imperiall after royal guard and all cards. Plus 30% rr which is big deal in late game as damage also scale.
And btw I would consider attack just as important since you are mostly going to just spam ulhans at vills or buildings. It is not like if they have less hp they are easily to catch (like you send less goons or kill them faster).

Re: Late game army composition - Germany
2hcs are way better than the age 4 uhlan card, a large portion of the time u want to semi fi as german before the gold mines run out
Re: Late game army composition - Germany
Winged Hussar + age 4 Uhlan + 2 hc + skirms = OP
If you get to age 4 I think you need to win it fast, as most civs are better in the long run.

Snaring your opponents mass with uhlan and then successfully shredding 50-100pop of units with dopples is amongst the most satisfying things to do in this game.
