Even if I know that there are already guides on Portuguese I wanted to ask you how to play the Portuguese with a FF while building walls like kynesie.
I speak Portuguese on a map where there is no water. A terrestrial map

Re: portuguese terrestrial map
Is your ability to speak Portuguese hydrophobic?
Seriously though,
Walls work better when combined with water:
1. because if you get confined on land maps to the degree where all you have is what your walls can hold, you starve. The exception to that are Japanese with their Cherry Orchards and Aztecs who can perform a nearly resourceless FI. It's especially bad for the Portuguese, who without constant food-heavy villager production loose their biggest asset.
2. because you gather wood for fishing boats anyway
On land maps they stop being viable outside of occasional segments between natural obstacles or buildings, especially on EP, for balance reasons.
