Is the piro FF that bad at lower levels?
I'm a 2nd lieut and I've played a lot of games as Spain, and lately I'm finding a lot of success doing the piro FF when I have the 200 wood start. I think I'm something like 10-1 with it. Which leads me to ask - how do you exactly beat it? In prior threads I've seen many people who have played much longer than I have and who are much much better (@Diarouga) dismiss the strat outright as just awful and easily counterable. Maybe it's just the PR of people I'm playing, but people have a hell of a time playing against me with it, especially on EP when Spain's shipments are better. Can someone explain how to defeat it? I'm down for a game or two if someone wants to put me in my place

This strat is definitely viable until captain level i think. This FF is super all-in which mean that if you hold the push, you have won cause the opponent got no eco.
Something like a "timing mass" age 2 is the way to go. Walls or colonial milicia can help you.

you can do pretty much anything and win, just make sure you dont die to the push

how do you not die to the push tho. it's no small task to kill 20 pikes, 2 falcs, and 15-20 skirms at 9 mins in

If you can micro your villagers well then that shuts down Piro's strategy. I think everyone has lost to it at some point tbh, but once you know how to deal with it then you're sailing ...

It is bad because there is no follow up. I mean, even if you trade armies in your favour you are still down in eco with no market, 1 military building, 60 pop and all good shipments gone.
Watch high level games and you see that they are very rarely won with all ins.
You can do basically the same, age up to fortress 20 sec slower, but with 5 more villagers (12 vs 15+2).

well, you can send CM and win with it, if the issue is holding it.

I think its overstated how terrible it is though.
I find that people are generally pretty bad at dealing with a well executed standard spain FF so thats also worth trying.

You say that but remember Ryan has lost like 3x vs it in less than 10 encounters.

Also, it's not like you can exactly prep for it. Unless you scout every vill movement and every shipment, it looks just like a normal Spain FF, where the pressure comes about 2 minutes later. and if you prep for fewer units, attacking later, you're gonna lose.

If you can have 2 cannons at 9:00 too: FF cannon. Micro your cannons well.
If you can't FF cannon/you are not confident about your cannon micro: stay in age 2, mass hussar musk, and wait.
