How the hell do you beat Japan?

I don't get it. You can't outboom them, fine. But I just lost after a 10/10 native rush wiped my opponent's town out and they just played hide and freaking seek for half an hour and spammed shrines too fast for me to siege. It was Yucatan and they had ships that I couldnt reach with my army so I went ATP and full land boom to just wait him out and somehow Japan just spits out dozens of Morataru(?) to wipe out my entire town from so far away I can't even see them on the mini map. And then their ships just kill like 8 units in one shot.

I guess I should've picked a sea deck so I could've sent ships? I don't get it. Even when I beat Japan I still lose.

I'm not drunk you're drunk.

I absolutely stole one of your builds. And it worked perfectly. I had everything down at one point but a dock and a couple shrines. I feel like most players would've GG'd but this guy just played hide and seek after that for half an hour.

Then you should've stagecoached and built outposts on shore probably

Outposts... yeah. Probably woulda been good. Did do stagecoach and it helped a lot until his mortars just destroyed them from out of their LOS.

I also totally forgot about a foundry I built to make culverins but I'm still mad at how he was able to recover at all economically. His eco would've been almost entirely shrines. Most of his vills died in my push.

You should be fully stagecoached some 20 minutes before he has units able to kill the TPs from the water if what you said in the OP was correct.

TBH jap and water is dumb and lame but you probably misplayed it. Hard to say without a rec.

you'll need to play water on this map.
keys:
1. spend a few units along your side of shore. he may build docks at both sides.
2. when you have enough land units, stop gathering food. go full wood/gold, build dock asap, train caravels and send 2 caravels.

i don't like playing full land. japan has too many ways to siege, raid... while you can't hurt his eco at all.

he may use ships to deny your docks, so you can use your land units to attract his ships, and build a dock at the same time.

frickin rush them, always rush them or early fortress timing push if the jap goes CM full boom. Dk about QS waterboomers, they probably don't resign. In those cases, resign yourself - it's not worth the time

Do some kind of economic damage (direct, or indirect) relatively early on. That's about it, really.

They can. But it is suboptimal.

Check his deck-->watch closely each side for docks->>tower as close to dock as possible->make dock and send 2 caravels.
Watch for land transition. Expect 5musk ship and batch of 5 musk once he gives up sea

The above, and on a map with only water on one side, when you have him beat on land, continue making your base out of range of monitors and prepaire for a long frustrating game. :chinese:

I'm personally against resigning, you only encourage them to flee like that. :hmm:

I've been suggesting a MAJOR NERF of Japan for a while. The fact he can shrine boom early and his late game units are OP is just stupid. That he can send mobile shipment and training points - who are themselves high HP units! - AND has powerful naval units is absolutely ridiculous.
If two players of equal skill are playing and one of them plays Japan, what civ can the other play that would have an even or better chance of winning? That's the proof that the civ is OP...

well you should try to improve your overall skill and not focus so much on beating japan. At some point japan seems a hard to counter civ but you just need to learn how to play lol

You beat japan by performing a 9/10 or 10/10 as india, shipping flail eles and targeting shrines, check if the big shrine is in a vulnerable position so that you can seige it without taking tc damage!

A slow sepoy rush also does the trick, after which you take the tp-line (japan is stabalizing) and then pressure. On non-tp maps it's more difficult, but still feasible
