Rattan Shield Rush?
Rattan Shield Rush?
I don't seem to see any comments on Rattan Shield, but Rattan Shield rush for China feels extremely powerful to the point of being near-imbalanced. I'm having a hell of a time killing villies with Rattan Shields, and it's almost obscene.
I think one of the biggest problems with China in Colonial is that they are terrible at killing villies. Iron Flails are Fortress units, while you can't get enough Steppe Riders for them to do their job (you need both Mongolian Scourge and 7 riders for them to be adequate, but that sacrifices your fighting power). Chu Ko Nu, on the other hand, are dependent on bonuses to deal appreciable damage, and they're vulnerable to being chased down by cavalry. The Rattan Shield shipment, on the other hand, gives you what are essentially upgraded disciples. Unlike disciples, they don't have a damage penalty against villagers, unlike disciples, they deal adequate building damage, and what's more, with 6.3 speed the only units that can chase you down are cavalry, and most cavalry don't have a bonus against them.
Is Rattan Shield rush anything close to a standard Chinese strategy? With Rattan Shield, Chinese shipments feel extremely powerful and I can either tech or sit in colonial as per my whim.

Well its only 500c for 10 rattan shields if I'm not mistaken. With a nice gold treasure u could easily gather the resources u need to ship them right when u hit colonial. Tho I would do this only when ur enemy is starting stable. Otherwise musks can counter them pretty effectivelly.

Re: Rattan Shield Rush?
The funny thing is alot pro players like to make ratton shield when they are in map with shaoulin trade post but if you think rodeleros is almost same unit ( weaker, speed 6, damage 10 etc, bonus versus cav and light infantry) but no good players do rodeleros rush with spain, dont come with " spain has to do ff always " because aoe3 dont have a unique guide plz, you can even increase the rodeleros speed by 10% with advanced arsenal card.
Unfortunally chine rush with or without ratton shield is "standard" strategie only for Aizamk and me one of his fan
