escape with small groups of vills, so that less vills will slow down

If you want to avoid it in whole, you can go full water. You can also build lots of walls and boom behind it. Another way to avoid it would be to kill your opponent faster than he kills you. If you want to keep your playstyle the same, you need to have more vision around your villagers, so you can see incoming raids sooner. Try to look at the minimap more often. Make sure they are in a safe place, near somewhere to garrison in order to avoid attacking units.

Try to place houses and other buildings between your resources and the enemy. That way you can get good los around the map and hopefully see raids coming before theyre there. Its kinda mechanics, but just train yourself to look at the minimap a lot.

Also, position your army to defend your villagers if youre not doing anything with them. Your base is of secondary importance, he cant destroy anything before your army is back in position. He can however kill some vills before your army is there to protect them, so try to guard your vills with your army before the raids hit.

If your vills are out really far, you can always build a tower and protect your vills with that.

Herding will probably help.

Shoot animals in direction towards your Town Center after every 12 seconds or more without actually killing them. It will allow you to start gathering faster, and have faster garrison support.

Hurts to see "herding" isn't the first thing you guys say. Herding is easy to learn and good to learn early on. Start with that imo.

it didnt sound like herding could be a problem. More like midgame raids.

Herd, build walls, hunt/mine where you're safe, have cav/goons of your own to catch raids, don't play vs japan.

Well herd ofc, otherwise build towers/walls.
Something low lvl players don't do is to push when you get raided, he'll have less army so you can kill it or kill vills, buildings and then back.

When you send cm as an euro civ, the big mms are really strong, as TAD civs, Im not sure they are even cost efficient^^

If you just delete all your vills at the start of the game you don't have to worry about getting raided.

1.)Be France 2.) delete cdb and TC 3.) Take scout and put in stealth mode 4.) Hide for the whole game till your opponent gets tired looking for you and quits 5.) Embrace the feeling of being a super troll

When he puts 10 spies on the map you can''t find them. Sometimes, you just don''t see his unit on the mini map because it is too close from the side. I remember tonkatu posted a game vs darwin where darwin did that, it took 2 hours to find every spies...
