In a treaty game, how many layers of walls should you have?
When playing treaty, how thick should your walls be? I always make a ton of walls, but I have two two teammates who say walls are not very important, and often only have 1 or 2, not even cutting down the trees around their base to make room for walls. This leaves them very vulnerable to raids, forcing me to defend them. So how many layers of walls do you think is good?

Normally 4 should be all you need. If you play a OP game with Russia and you know he will spam boxes its not bad to have the double amount of walls.

Usually you want 4-5 outer walls and one Eco wall. If your base is up near hm and/or you are against a running civ you will want 6-8 outer walls with 1-2 Eco.

I definitely use at least 4-5. Is there any merit to my teammates who say that base building isn''t important if you are always on the offensive?

How is the answer not "as many as possible"?

Well my teammates say walls are unhelpful and that you should surround your base with barracks and stables instead.

As many as possible. I personally use between 25-45 vills to start walling as soon as the treaty ends (pause the game for this)

To give an answer about how many walls you will actually need: There is no fixed number of walls. It depends on the players you are facing. Most of the time, in treaty games, if you expect a heads up fight, you will not need a lot of walls (as they will block your FB) so 2 could be enough. However, if you expect the opponent to run, you might want 4 to 6 walls (more would be useless as you will not have enough space for FB anymore). This will save you in case you do not see the run right away and will hold the opponent a time. Although, you shouldnt rely on only walls in treaty. They are just a protection (defensive). And too much is too much: too many walls means too defensive means not able to be aggressive. Not enough walls means too aggressive, means not defensive enough, and that doesn't work either. So 4 walls is a perfect amount of walls (if you stick them close to eachother) as you will have enough space to build more in case you need them or to use that space for FB if you need it.

Keep in mind this is for 3v3 or 4v4 games, where space is less of an issue.

4v4 in treaty 40?fightinfrenchman wrote:Keep in mind this is for 3v3 or 4v4 games, where space is less of an issue.
Well the fact that its a 3v3 doesn''t really change that much. All you want is to have enough walls to hold out in case you are slow to react to a run but you dont want to be blocked by your own walls for the base in eco in case you have to fight in your eco. My answer remains 4 walls to be enough and not too expensive (both in price and space).

Yes, we often do 4v4 treaties, though not as often as we should.

4v4 treaty is like lagg hell, no wonder you get disgusted by treaty ')
Its not impossible to do but you cant expect to have a fluid game even with the best internet connexions.
For the best treaty 40 experience, stick to 3v3 max i would say.

We have a big LAN switch which keeps the LAN games going strong. Occasionally there may be time travel dynamics however.

[span style="font-size:12pt'"]It depends on what treaty you are playing In no treaty make no walls, in Nr10 make 10, in Nr20 make 20, In nr30 make 30, in nr40 make 40 and in nr55 make 55. In case you don't have enough space consider deleting your plantations, houses, mills, factories etc. They are all useless if you can't protect them, however don't delete your start tc as you won't be able to build anymore in treaty not a issue in nr55 after 40 though.

The correct answer is as many as you can fit, while maintaining military buildings/gates. I usually have 12 layers cause I split it into eco/milli walls. Easier to do with japan or dutch (lower space needed cuz of fewer vills. Also, I build pillars in the front so that enemy is slowed down. In orinoco 55 min I sometimes make docks at the crossing, blocking enemy from walling a little, then I delete it once they make walls so I can make FB (jk lol but ive seen this happen in team games)
