Eh this feels like an awkward strategy.
I have no idea what I'm doing. I lost almost every game I did this to bad players and only won against really bad players.
What's the preferred build? I feel like steppes are crap and don't deserve to be sent.
I try to get 2 villages in age 1, send 3 vills, then age with 5 vills on summer palace, ez pz. Get a TP during age-up, then start getting food for age-up
Then I send 700W, get a rax, house and a second TP out of that.
Then 700 coin. Age up with that, 8 vills on the skirm wonder.
Then I get steam-rolled really. There's the 10 skirm + 11 changdao card I like. Manchus I try to get in as well. But my mass is terrible after a bit. I feel like you still need hunts or something to work with china in fortress age. normally this civ is most powerful in the fortress / semi-FF builds but after playing a bit, my fortress mass sucks and my units are too crappy to get anything out of 'em.
flaming arrows / japan units win pretty easily at that point I feel
but maybe i'm just doing this wrong.
ideas / thoughts / tips? i'm more curious about what goes through the head of a good player when they do a china semi

i played against a guy that did china pikes semi-ff vs mine siux just now. He got roflstomped by a strat that i was TESTING(ff) so it is probaly not good at all...

Yes, so it was you then.... well then i gotta say that it was not a good strat, coz 8 pikes+hero+disciple are not good enough to raid, pressure or do significant damage to justify getting to fortress 1:15 seconds later than a normal ff and probaly delaying a fortress card(since u sent the pikermans).

Yeah China's semi is not very good due to their lack of eco cards in colonial. As is they are a very one dimensional civ, their only real option is naked FF with a unit shipment after 700g for defense if necessary.

The only build to do with china is to 700g 700w ff.
Also dont forget the consulate and the intervention card which sends 9 british muskets. That card is key to having a good fortress with china.
If you have to send unit shipment instead of 700 wood you are already really far behind.
Set summer palace to xbow and pike regardless of what others will say about this keishek and pike army. Also make sure you use your minutes very intelligently and your explorer as well to avoid having to send a unit shipment.
Also dont forget the consulate and the intervention card which sends 9 british muskets. That card is key to having a good fortress with china.

yeah it is but on many maps japan has a hard time dealing with the fortress death ball honestly.

Sure tp gives you 1 more shipment and allows you to send a military shipment vs a rush, but village is 200w+1vill...

If you lose your single village before you send 700w , you''ll be badly housed. I would rather build the 2nd village since it provides 1 vill, +20 pop limit and garrison ability.

I make second village every game. More house space and extra vil working. Might have been trying it in whatever rec you are mentioning
