Tip of the Day — Native Scout cover mode

The French get a huge advantage in the Discovery Age due to their almighty Native Scout. He is crucial in early explorer fights, but you have to watch out not to lose him, as he has to survive until the Colonial Age to serve his main purpose. When fighting with him, though, remember about one simple trick — his ability of cover mode. At the beginning of the game players usually are able to commit to micro their explorer units as nothing much is going on apart from that. Therefore, you can use your spare APM to micro your Native Scout: if he's getting low on HP and has to retreat, time his cover mode with the enemy shots — run when the opponent's Explorer/Outpost/Blockhouse/TC is reloading, quickly switch to the cover mode when they're about to shoot, tank the damage, switch to the normal mode and keep running away. That way you may keep your Native Scout alive, as he's very useful in the later stages of the game, too. Personally, I managed to use that simple move a couple of times and it turned out to be deciding in terms of his survival.
Remember that when you switch a unit to a different tactical mode, like cover or melee, it will stop immediately. When you're running away from the enemy fire, bear in mind to switch between the modes as quickly as possible.

He has indeed, I was using it a lot lol, otherwise I wouldnt' have posted it.
Envoys, however, don't possess such an ability.

I get the same impression, they are far inferior to Native Scouts, with no cover mode, no siege and above all lower speed.
