fortress omg...cav archer strelet vs howdah urumi mahout
why india units are so strong? cause they have unique names that none of us know what they mean. anyone knows what sepoy sower zanmurak mahout howdah urumi mean in english?
Hi, can i help u a bit in this one couprider?
Sepoy: a corruption of the word "Sipahi", which in hindi, means soldier. (im guessing its similar in urdu, coz the "Spahi" which the ottomans have is also a corruption of the word "sipahi"
Sowar: Crudely translated sowar means "rider" (sawar), im aware of Indians calling their horse cav "ghur sawar" = horse rider
Zamburuk: derived from the arabic word "Zambur" meaning hornet. Zambs were used to pepper the enemy infantry with shots. &' be moved out.
Mahout: is the word used in india for an elephant trainer.
Howdah : The seat on the back of an elephant is called an Howdah. since the gunner is seated in such a seat im guessing they chose the name of the unit.
Urumi: Is a special whip sword, used in the southern parts of India. its one of the most advanced levels of swordsmanship in the "kalaripayattu" system of Indian martial arts.
These are
NOT english words, mostly regional, which the brits picked up as the assimilated these lands.
Hope the infos helpful. :clint:
