Why does nobody ship manlets?
They have 440 hp (with explorer bonus) and 50% rr, and you get 5 of them in one shipment. Just so you know how tanky this is, if the enemy has 49 veteran skirms and clicks on one of your manlets for instance, that manlet would still be alive.
Despite that, nobody has them in their deck.
Sure you can easily hit and run them with their meager 3.5 speed, but its not like you can run away from them if you have 2 falconets....

i always have them in my deck. iro lacks sieging in age 3, and mantlet is a good buff. age up with 4 mantlet and send 5 do pretty good with port.

You are missing out in sending units that do real damage. Becasue of this you fall back in the skirm count
Also people can micro manually to avoid firing on them, so they don't actually tank that much damage.
You can clear the FPs first, then clear the mantlets aftewards - when iro has no more units to shoot behind these shields

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
Their speed is bad, yes, and they only have 10 range
But CoupRider is a better player than me and I understand they can be good in certain situations
Also they are funny for troll strats in FFA

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
yeah mantlet has tons of upgrades:
chief aura
age 2 infantry attack, infantry hp, 10% attack/hp
age 3 infantry combat, siege weapon hp, siege weapon attack, siege weapon combat, siege weapon pop-1
firepit dance
big button 10% speed
they have insane data with EIGHT shipments lol

It's the best on New England or Sag to slam 100 mantlets in FFA xD

You are missing out in sending units that do real damage.
So you are saying that sending 6/5 kanya is better? By this time you would have already sent the 8 prowlers, 5 musket riders and the 400 400 400 resource crates, so it wont really affect the skirm count in anyway. (The other crate shipment kinda suks) Besides, you would be using them when the other guy has cannons, so he would need to focus fire with both the skirms and dragoons while telling his cannons to shoot your skirms.
Even if you are focus firing like a mad man in a normal situation, you would still be losing some damage due to overkill or due to barely killing an unit and overkilling afterward. Its easy for that to happen on such a low damage unit like the skirm.
Id just send the manlets in melee towards the cannons. Even if there is hand cav, they would still be tanking. The five of them are almost worth the same amount of hp of 5 cuirassiers, except they have 50 rr and no extra damage from anti cav units.

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
yeah well, if you think ppl are going to shoot them a lot go for it, by all means. I wouln't send them, because I don't think they'll get too many shots in a big fight(ofc some will land on them, unless your opponent is a god).
Also they make your whole army slower, and immobile.
But yeah, I'd rather have kanya, to pair with a 5 kanya batch at the end of a fight to snare my opponent's units, rather than having mantlets which could maybe tank some damage. Kanya are much more flexible imo

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
Manlets are just sponge really, they don't deal any damage tbh, and are so clumsy, sure its worth sending if you already have a pretty good mass and wan't some tank, but actually making them from the tp hut, isn't worth it imo, it costs like 75w 125c so pretty expensive.

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
they dont really make your army slower tho... Just dont put them on the same unit group. Supposing the manlets are a counter shipment for falcs, it shouldnt really matter since you can just leave them at the base and go harass if you are planning on using your mobility to your advantage. When you are going to defend, you can easily move them to position then.
Kanya are much more *flexible*, but they kinda suck as an unit overall, and you might not have the upgrade for it since you might not be using them.(since they suck...). Unless you already have a mass of cav, sending cav is pretty useless in fortress since dragoons can deal with a little army of just five or six of them with just one or two shots, perhaps not even letting them land a single hit. At the end of the day they wouldnt accomplish much in tanking, much less in dealing any damage.

Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
Notice how the Manklets have their tough wooden shield at a steep angle. In other words, they tilt very hard.
Re: Why does nobody ship manlets?
Mantlets are good tanks in my experience, I have the shipment in my deck and almost always end up shipping it in fortress.
Iro would be useless in treaty if it wasn't for mantlets iirc. That shows they are cost effective.

Well, you asked why nobody ships them, those are the reasons. Peace!
