Is this strategy cheating?
Opening apologies if this has been already covered.
I'm aware that people usually FF with China while playing 1v1, but of course it's common knowledge that China also has a fairly effective rush, involving building a forward village and shipping pike and ckn early.
I've been doing this on great plains recently, but what I also did was scout properly, and build the village in such a position that I could easily herd their second hunt towards it. Is this cheating? I've been pested and called a noob for doing this, but in my opinion it's not cheating, just taking map very early on.

Re: Is this strategy cheating?
Its not cheating, but some people think its bad manners, especially on great plains where ur third hunt is non-existent or super far away. I would do it in a tourney game as it gives u a huge advantage, but not in casual play except for qs.

Yeah honestly it's really bad mannered to do this, especially on shit maps, but it's ofc not cheating. You can totally do it if you want, just expect to get pested/flamed/hated

Would this sort of rush be viable in a high-level China mirror if the other guy is FFing?

People just get mad if you do something that forces them to adapt.

I really do think so. In my opinion, anyone master serg or up should already have the common sense to herd their second hunt before 3-4 minutes, earlier even

It's usually not that BM of a strategy, but specifically on great Plains where sometimes you don't even have a 2nd hunt less than 1.5 screen from your TC...
Re: Is this strategy cheating?
yeah this strat is literally cheating by the definition of cheating that I forgot to google before making this post.

That's true, but how to do adapt to 2 deers? Ship 700f first card so you can maintain vill production?
It's true that it should never work if you herd your food in age 1, you may not even have a hunt herdable to TC. The only other option is minutemen, which may or may not work, and if it doesn't there's probably nothing you can do vs the rush.
last time i cryed was because i stood on Lego
Re: Is this strategy cheating?
*4 deer at least.
Generally it's considered pretty lame as hunts accessibility is something purely random on which people have almost no influence (apart from picking a correct map to start off) and they can just get screwed by the game. It's unfortunately pretty common to have such imbalanced situations or standard maps. If you're gonna abuse your undeserved advantage, you can be called a lamer sometimes I guess. Of course not a cheater.

The best thing is to build docks on opponents side and put boats in it to shoot the enemy's boats in treaty games.

Re: Is this strategy cheating?
Yeah it aint cheating. Maybe a little annoying but I mean, you play to win the game.
I get dirty looks for how I play Yugioh and I'm always like "I'm sorry for playing the game in a way you don't approve of."

Sure doing Ottos in QS is lame (in nilla) but it isn't cheating as you don't break any rules of the game (that would be hacking). Cheese sure but cheating? Naw.

Re: Is this strategy cheating?
Would not call this cheating at all - just a smart move if you wanna rush! I saw a game where a cdb went forward and killed almost all hunts! That is more borderline cheating IMO.
Hippocrits are the worst of animals. I love elifants.

lol, it's not cheating, like at all. Do you even know what does it mean?

A little lame but certainly fine. Personally, would rather play someone who does this then goes water and then extends a 10 minute game into 40.

Ah, well this is something I only do on great plains because I know where the opponent's base will be, and I know that hunts make or break that map. I suppose this could also be viable on maps like Ozarks and Sonora. On any kind of water map I think the effectiveness would greatly diminish.
I really appreciate the support guys. For some reason I don't think I'd have been called a lamer had I used a european civ like Ger and put an outpost on their hunts, but China's lameness in general may have contributed to it. I like to call it a very early, very aggressive contain. Simple as.

I guess I'm getting old and don't have the patience for those water games. They just get boring to me and it feels like it drags out a game that should have been decided earlier.
