yes. such examples are here.. aka qs fanatics.. Who plays one civ and become good
armada89 = iro ( top1 qs fanatic and best iro qs player imo.. his toma rush is pretty skillful )
piroshiki = spain
nayuki = brits
irish = france ( he's not a qs fanatic though )
agofkiller = ( plays most legit and fair civ in qs against iro abusers )

yeah, notify him so that he won't miss your fabulous comment!
Generally no, it's recommended to master all civs just like the guy above.
More civs give a wider perspective on the game as a whole and can extend your knowledge drastically. If you can as a particular nation, you know its weaknesses and can abuse them when facing that one with another civ, for instance.

If Nayuki only played 100% Brits though...
Playing one civ gets pretty frustrating over time I think.
If you play 100% Civ Ayou just know that MU X on Map Y is just unwinnable, no matter what you do. That is pretty annoying.
Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
It would the ideal thing actually, but the game isnt balanced and there simply arent enough players anyway so better mix things a bit by yourself.
Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
I find it more fun to focus on 1/2 civs and then try to get those to the point where Id understand all 14 match ups. In qs you cant really determine the mu in advance so playing one civ is more logical. In browser games you can actually make sure you have 1-3 civs you like and know how to play against a certain civ. Thats the better approach for tournaments for sure.

Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
ESOC tournament format does not favor 1-civ-ponies
Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
I think depende from you. Some players where mono civs and owned hard. I think important Is choosing a civ that has not Mu where they are hard or Total countered.

Yeah, despite what I said I like to get totally familiarised with a civ, gradually picking another after learning the previous ones

Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
Playing only 1 civ is imo the best way to improve, because then you know the build orders perfectly well, and can focus on improving your mechanics. When you reach a good level, then you can ofc start playing several civs

If you plan on trying to make it as far as you can in tournaments learning multiple civs is a must. If you don't care about tournaments playing one civ fine, it just comes down to what you enjoy playing.

I think it also depends on the civ. If you only play Otto you won't train your mechanics in the same quality as if you were playing only French or sth.
Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
any rec of armada89 = iro toma rush??
Re: Mastering 1 Civ/ Playing only 1 civ
In the end just do what you like the best. Some people love playing many civs, some people like a more specific playstyle and some just like one civ. Its all fine.

I play 80% of my games as France. But it's only because I'm ok at Brits/Ports and straight trash at everyone else

Starting off with 1 civ is perfectly fine. But as you progress you might want to explore more options so that you can better yourself in your favourite civ.

I totally agree. Imo you should focus one civ at a time, at least in rated games. When playing unrated, I play civs i dont know much just to relax a bit.
