Defense Mode/Cav Box

The infamous box formation is mostly used for Oprichniks to aid them in moving in a tight group through small vulnerablities and increase their agility. In a FFA recently however, I played a guy who put his RG huss in a box and used them to great effect, taking out 5 players' factories one after the other in "Merry Christmas" raids. I tried using Life Guard boxes myself in a later Supremacy game and found them to be very effective. When attack-clicked in the middle of a group of fleeing villagers, the entire box split open like a bomb in all directions, making short work of all the innocent civilians. When the box abruptly arrived at an the highest ranked opponent’s TC and began sieging it down, he resigned.

Why don’t people use boxes more? They improve your mobility, allow you to bring more forces to bear at once in a concentrated area in a cav battle (economy of force), hide your numbers, decrease your chances of being spotted on edge of LOS, help raiding (from what I can see), able to exploit small weaknesses in a defence without slowing down and just general advantages in killing things with large numbers of cav as it minimises the knocking around.

Does it work with ranged cav? Remember how H2O talked about how ruyters are better compact and hitting together? Could it be the solution to the stagger mode bug?

What about pike boxes with something fast in the middle like a rodelero in Colonial to siege things? and for the lulz petard box?

Boxes have two vulnerabilities: area damage, and the ease with which they are broken. Area damage demolishes them, and killing off the center unit makes the box useless.

You can make boxes with:
Your explorer and HI
1x LI and HI
1x RC and HC

That is all I have found. RC boxes wont work anyway because they have bad siege so it's not worth. German Ulhan and WW boxes are the best, because of their speed card. Once the WW gets destroyed there's 49 uber-speedy ulhans in their base. Super-Raid.

You can split up cav when raiding and save heaps of hp. Makes HC just as fast as RC if not faster. It is an age IV shipment tho if I remember correctly. Still a speedy czapka box that split pretty much demolishes any eco.

Sioux box is available in quicksearch games. It works well against those wall lamers.
