Call of Duty
Recently I learned on Discord that some of us here play older CoD games, like CoD4 or CoD: WaW — if you're amongst them, feel free to write here so that we can discuss our beloved FPSs and perhaps schedule some games together!

Re: Call of Duty
Used to play CoD on console. Got really good at pubs, became bored, and instead became heavily invested in the competitive call of duty scene and started playing competitive (on gamebattles) with some friends I met online who shared and perhaps exceeded in my newfound passion. One of them was an old halo 3 pro even. We got front page a couple of times, which means we were in the top 25 teams for that season's ladder which means you'd see us show up on here.
I eventually quit because like in aoe I was not really confident in myself although I knew I possessed the potential to be quite good. I became increasingly nervous in game as the pressures to win 9 games for every 1 loss increased and I felt I was holding everyone back which I kind of was as they all went on to be total beasts in the next CoD without me.
That's why I prefer 1 v1 in aoe; so I don't cost the team anything.
There's something about that insane rush of adrenaline though after beating an undefeated team going back and forth through 3 maps and using sheer gut instinct and twitch response to pull out clutch plays. Tbh I've probably resigned myself from experiencing those types of emotions in life now that my adolescent sports and competitive online gaming parts of my life are over, which, now that I think about it, is awfully depressing.

Fascinating story! I usually rock on public CoD4 servers, as well as on CoD: WaW, but never really touched the competitive scene truly. Only tried a couple of times Promod when I wasn't even that good some years ago. What CoDs did you play?

Re: Call of Duty
I've played all cod pubs since cod 4 but ghosts was the game I got into competitively. If you know anything about the scene you'll know ghosts wasn't the best competitive game but it was one of the best competitive SnD games imo and that's the only game mode we played.
Re: Call of Duty
I don't think any other game mode sees usage in competitive play...

Re: Call of Duty
Competitive CoD that the Pros play consists of a combination of game modes that make up a series. For instance a bo 5 might be: Hardpoint, Capture the Flag, SnD, Hardpoint, SnD. However on gamebattles it's much more common to play SnD only and these people are called "SnD stars." They can sometimes be better than the pros at SnD since that's all they play whereas a majority of maps at tournies are actually respawn based.
In every series the final map will always be an SnD. There have been some great matches between teams that go last map last round to win it all.

Re: Call of Duty
Hmm, interesting. Like I mentioned already, I was somewhat following CoD4 Promod scene only, in which every match is S&D, played on one of 5 best maps in the game.

Ah ye promod is very interesting and fun but sort of fell out
Re: Call of Duty
Indeed, it hasn't changed since like the day one — it's just the nature of CoD4: no cards, special tasks, idk all those features from new games.
Though this old CoD4 pro has come back to it, by the looks of things:

I play Modern Warfare 2 on PC sometimes. Despite the frustrations with game balance I still think the pacing of CoD makes it a good game to relax to.

People can't move as fast as in that game, totally unrealistic -1
Loved the presentation table tho, we should have that here!

That is a huge misconception tbh, i went back on black ops 2 after a good long while and it hurt my eyes being used to bo3.
