@Dolan Thats a long list for a relatively mediocre gain. Only the server stuff is cool but that's not realistic at all in any sense because theres nowhere near enough people playing this game.

The unforgiving part is what seperates sc2 and great succes from eachother. Aoe is forgiving, but crappy in many other senses.

Well, RTS games are harder in general so they aren't as attractive to the masses.

I don't find that argument too good. Dark souls is a fucking hard game, I don't think Ive ever seen anyone call Rocket league easy, mobas have a pretty significant learning curve too.. I dont think there is a lack of people interested in playing hard games.

Because you didn't put a missile turret or because the Protoss player found out that you can load 4 adepts in a Warp-prism and wipe out an entire mineral line unpunished.

Very difficult to achieve a high level like any other, but in general, it is very simple who enters and plays with ease ...

Theres more than just the losing workers. If you accidentally dont split marines against banelings you're just dead too. Sc2 has too many "oh you didnt react in time" or "oh you didnt know this was coming" moments where theres nothing you will be able to do about it. Aoe3 has pretty easy scouting and easy ways to respond to unexpected things, and the battles are somewhat slower which makes a slightly slower reaction not as devastating.

SC2's problem was that when it was released you couldn't host custom games, there was no arcade, no skins to purchase (or equivalent), no mods to buy. They have all of that now but they missed the boat by a couple of years ...

I think Dolan is asking for a clean slate and a new game entirely.

It's not like it's impossible either. We're talking about a LoL equivalent in the RTS genre. I'm surprised it hasn't already happened.

Ever heard of this mobile game called Boom Beach? Half my coworkers play it and they're pretty engaged in it. You can't really call it an RTS but when they talk about it it's gibberish to me, which implies a learning curve. I think there's room for something along these lines on the PC platform.

AOEO was Microsoft's attempt at it, I guess. I'm not familiar with that game at all, so maybe it's a just a pipe-dream doomed to fail. One failed attempt doesn't mean the entire endeavor is failed however.

Boom Beach by Supercell (The same company who made Clash of Clans and Clash Royale) is quite interesting at first, but then it takes very long time for upgrades and building new installations.. I don't think it has much to do with learning curve.

Dota2 has a sharper learning curve than LOL. Guess that's why, LoL is more popular... And in these games, initially you would find it easy and pleasant, but when the grinding starts, you would wanna leave the game

Anyway, the p2p hosting system is fairer because it means that everyone lags the same. With dedicated servers the players who live closer to the server would have an advantage.

Age of Empires DE Beta Sign Ups are now working properly

  • Quote

Post by Interjection »

Hi everyone, AOE1 was the game that originally got me interested in the franchise so I'm really excited to see a HD version.

I'll be playing the beta a lot I imagine, so it would be nice to have as many familiar faces along for the ride too.

I imagine I'll be doing some commentary for the game with some of the AOE2 faces once it goes public so I hope everyone signs up! Let's properly represent the AOE3 scene

The signs were broken but they appear to be fixed now: https://www.ageofempires.com/

Guess you didn't read the part you agreed to which says you aren't supposed to let people know the existence of the survey... but I guess it's fine.

Thanks. Yeah, that's why those games are so popular right now. They're well-made and have a commercial recipe that works.
