Main course: Beef Wellington http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyle ... e2-1952280
Dessert: Mousse au chocolat, served with some fresh fruit purees.

The carpaccio can be prepared easily beforehand (which is good, you don't want to have so much when the guests actually arrive), for main course you should avoid steaks as it is a pain to prepare 20 steaks at the same time (almost impossible with normal equipment). You need something that is in the oven or a big pot (I suggessted beef Wellington as you wanted it fancy, but you can also go for paella, chilli con carne served in bread bowls etc.

Awesome suggestions! I will try these out. It appears to me the requirement for a main course is that you can put the meat in the oven to properly serve it warm.

Thats not the tradition and thats also much more expensive.

We can drink before we turn 21 though, and this is a student thing where some students pretend to be fancy while theyre actually not. It also includes many speeches from friends and getting drunk after the dinner.

I want to outdo them ofc haha.

deleted_user wrote:Well I'm a student. No one knows how to cook anything that isn't spaghetti or frozen chicken. I believe inviting folks over for dinner becomes more of a thing in the middle aged professional workplace though I can't hardly remember my own parents doing this at all. Of course family holidays are occasion for great home cooked meals but those are really the only times I can personally recall a situation like that.

Cooking is easy, and I have dinner with friends all the time. We just cook up a pasta and eat it, loads of fun. But rly fancy cooking is easy too, its just too much effort for daily meals.

What you need is:
1) Ice Cream/Beer Floats (desert)
2) Chips/Dip
3) Some italian/pseudo-italian dish (Lasagna, Pasta, etc.)
4) Native dutch dish made with family recipe.
5) Marinated Foods
6) Music in the background (Festivities MUST come with musics -> sets a happy mood)

That's what I'm saying! We'll go out to a mexican place for Marg Mondays or Applebees for half apps or something similar. We might get together and watch a hockey game but then we'll order carry out wings or something.

Fancy dinner should be followed by wine, though. ;)

My friends tell me that good beer is much more appetizing than wine.

What is even good beer? I've never had a beer (or any alcoholic beverage) that I've actually enjoyed drinking.

I'm not saying it's less expensive. I'm just of the opinion you cannot cook for 20 people from scratch.

you clearly have never cooked a fancy meal....... Me my dad and my brother spent almost 4 hours cooking a fancy meal for my mom and my grandparents on mother's day.... Neither is cooking fancy food easy unless you are a professional chef. There's a reason why fancy food is fancy food and it's not because it objectively tastes better
