Re: Greatest nation on earth
Money is not the problem though, it's the symptom of the disease, rather than the disease itself. But yes, money, and the mentality which has made money so important, have pretty much corrupted human relations (and relations with pretty much everything else in our environment) in every aspect of life.
as for papists point, I think we should separate corporations from state, just as we have separated church and state. In america the constitution and the founding fathers have reached almost deity status, but in fact, the current american political state is so far removed from what the founding fathers had envisioned, in fact, many of their greatest fears, as they have for example outlined in the federalist papers (which they wrote to actually defend the constitution, as it was far from universally accepted back then as it is now), are things coming to fruition in Trump's turn, or have before, under Obama back to Clinton. It's really interesting to see how the politicians adressed their constituents back then, and how they do now, and think of what that says about how the politicians think about their voters, and how much respect that shows...

@Harsha Not too surprising (have heard some of that before), but still interesting. Sadly like any other nation with rapid development the social issues, infrastructure and environmental issues are being left behind and have to catch up over a much longer time. Let's hope that happens rather sooner than later

The criteria are simple:
1. Military spending.
2. Usage frequency of the term "this is the greatest nation on Earth."

It just depends on you, really. For the most part, it's a cultural thing. Most people feel at home in the country they've grown up in. So if someone from the Philippines switched houses with someone from Thailand, it's possible that both end up unhappy. These people just happened to be born in the best country, just like how I just happened to be born with a mother who is the best cook in the world. But there are other factors too. Religion, for instance. An atheist might be more comfortable in extremely secular Northern European countries, but a Hindu would be more comfortable in India or Nepal. Just here in the U.S., in fact, Mormons like to live in states that have a lot of Mormons, such as Utah, Arizona, Idaho, and Wyoming. Economically, there are things to consider. Rich people will probably enjoy Singapore, Switzerland, and the like. Someone who wants to start a business and become a millionaire will probably enjoy the economic mobility in the United States, but someone who just wants to get a degree and live a comfortable life will be more drawn to the strong safety nets of European countries.
A good example of how personal this valuation is is how I'll joke about preferring suicide to living in a lot of European countries; meanwhile, my sister is trying to get citizenship in an EU country. Trying to hold countries to some sort of universal standard is flawed, because it's clearly a matter of personal preference.

Do you include the control group in n? I don't know if this meets the central limit theorem or not.fightinfrenchman wrote:Amsel_ wrote:

I hate when you try googling something, and you don't get anything relevant to the question you asked.
