Re: Where do you stand politically?
@Kommander- the original Iron Front anti-fascist league had a flag with three arrows on it. These stood for monarchy, fascism and communism- that's right the anti-fascists were also anti-communist. They fought the brown shirts and the red shirts but ultimately people got so fed up of them that they went for Nazism- there is a lesson here to be learnt for todays 'antifascists'- get a grip young men.
We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created by the you know, you know the thing.
Re: Where do you stand politically?
I would vote for the green party. This means generally left I guess, but I also get annoyed with conservative tendencies of the left (to much union power etc.).
Though I think the nicest is left and right working together. We have a couple of examples of that in Belgium and it can work really well. Neither left nor right has the answer to all problems so the most important is to see 'what works', loose from conviction.
A study was made in Holland I think, they gave goverment officials documents from hospitals (how good they are, income, expenses, etc.) and asked them to jugde them. Politicians from all sides came to the same conclusion. Then they did the same test and told officials 'this hospital is private, this hospital is public' and asked to jugde them. The more right wing politicians where more positive about the private hospitals (irrespective of there statistics) and left wing the same about public.
So what I'm trying to say is that ideology can get in the way of what is good in a certain situation.
As said, I'm more left, I guess. That doesn't mean that sometimes I don't agree 'right' sollutions can be needed.

I support a progressive income tax targeted at the wealthiest individuals with smart, ample social programs and government expenditure for the benefit of the people in preparation for a largely automated future, regulations and proper incentives for climate change mitigation without impeding greatly on agricultural/industry output (note - not strictly profits), and resources to allow straight-forward citizenship so we can get more of that sweet tax dough.
A single-payer health care system has way more pros than cons and saves lives. Access to more affordable and/or free community college is not difficult to achieve. Lower powerball odds and raise the jackpot to increase state lottery revenue. Increase women's health services and access to contraceptives and STD clinics; it's been shown to greatly reduce the amount of unwanted teen pregnancies.
International trade is good, mkay? Less restrictions on that. Perhaps too idealistic. Legalize weed for no other reason than to spread out all the pot-heads from congregating in just Colorado and Washington. Consider a ban on cringey marijuana-themed apparel.
Racism, sexism, prejudice, and all around bigotry is frowned upon. We don't have to go full PC here but a little acknowledgement about how ass-backwards social attitudes have been in the past and how much room there is for improvement would be nice. Please, focus less on race and more on the socioeconomic disparities in communities.
Having a strong, global militaristic presence is good.

Re: Where do you stand politically?
@deleted_user4 I agree with most of what you wrote, but wanted to comment on a couple of the points you made.
Free trade has gutted the American working class. If we don't protect at least some parts of our economy from an influx of cheap shit, we will be left with white collar and service jobs, with nothing in between.
I think pot should be treated like tobacco. Legalize it, and tax it heavily to discourage its use. Viciously pursue illegal vendors.
Just no. War "everywhere all the time" is bad for America and the world. It costs a lot and destabilizes everything. Furthermore, the other initiatives you are pushing for aren't possible if we are spending $700 billion on our military.

Re: Where do you stand politically?
I don't like boxes and labels. For me, it depends on the context of the situation - good old subjectivity. In the US, I would probably be described as some sort of weird blend of liberal/anarchist/conservative, thus I chose "other". I've been called a liberal by conservatives, and conservative by liberals, but I really like the idea of anarchy, so I don't really know how to label myself. I would think that the majority of people wouldn't really fit into any sort of box, but would also be a blend. To me, extremism of any kind limits individual freedom. Even anarchy limits freedom because where does one's freedom overlap/overtake another's?

Agreed. I get all these surveys from the GOP and they are always targeting less tax brackets. I think there should be NO tax brackets and the tax you pay should scale on a strict formula. Makes it much simpler and doesn't discourage people from doing shady things to avoid moving brackets.

While the effects of this seem like a big factor, the working middle class was gutted for many reasons other than this. The middle class was already on a precipitous decline prior to NAFTA. NAFTA is far from perfect but takes much more heat than it should. Bigger factors are tax policy and other policies that have forced wealth growth to the top 1%. There is certainly things to be said about enforcing the trade deals however, we don't do a good enough job at it (mainly because many administrations are afraid to attack big business interests).

100% agreed.
I think there's a difference between war, everywhere and all the time and having a presence. We can strategically help stabilize problem areas with by being there and being engaged, generally this should help avoid catastrophes later in time.Just no. Re: Where do you stand politically?
N0el is correct in that having a global presence does not equate to "war everywhere all the time."
Unfortuntely human nature and history has shown us that, if allowed, authoritarian countries will attempt to seize power with force. It is the ultimate tool of accomplishment and can only be countered with force of its own.
The US is generally politically moderate on a global scale and has one of if not the most powerful militaries. It is important we maintain a presence so as to dissuade other countries from acting on these violent ideas. This largely means a passive existence but with the possibility for action.
In addition to just having the potential to mobilize quickly nearly everywhere in response to an active threat this also means we can mobilize quickly in response to a disaster with proper aid and help.
Trust me I hate war big time and I'm a coward who would never volunteer for the military but it's one of those things where if we don't do it other countries will so in glad we are the ones doing it.

Re: Where do you stand politically?
When I say anarchy, I mean that, sure "everyone for themselves", but it's really about maximizing one's own happiness. We're truly selfish creatures. I'm not religious, thus, I don't believe in an afterlife. Life is short. Enjoy it while you can. The issue comes when one's own happiness collides with another. A differential here is when an individual doesn't desire to harm other beings/creatures. Finding that balance between what is best for you and what is best for others is an issue. Personally, I gain a lot of pleasure from self-sacrifice. I enjoy helping others. Therefore, they benefit, just as I benefit. Nonetheless, I struggle with finding that balance between being a doormat, but also taking care of myself. If none of this makes sense, I'm sorry. Sometimes, okay often, nope nearly always, I struggle with articulating my thoughts and feelings, particularly when I've been drinking.
In any case, yes, my views are weird. I'm weird. But that's okay, we all are in our own ways. I sincerely appreciate and respect all of you, even if it's not the way I feel and think.

i would say you value personal freedom, but note that that and anarchy carry very different connotations (anarchy is a political ideology with all the ramifications of one)

Out of those options I'm leaning towards left-wing liberal, but it depends on where you're at really. I'd probably be labeled a communist by many.

Sadly ANTIFA has given anti-facism a bad name, or at least, it has taken on an entirely different meaning of it's own despite sharing the same English words. Of course facism is bad, but I don't agree with a lot of ANTIFA's actions. Labeling oneself as anti-facist usually means aligning oneself with the group called ANTIFA which I'm hesitant to do.
