fav pasta shape?
Pasta is definitely one of the best foods, I think we can all agree on that. However it comes in many different shapes and sizes, and people have all sorts of opinions about them. Vote on your favorite pasta shape and explain in great detail why

Re: fav pasta shape?
This is actually a topic that I have legitimate interest in, since when I was much younger I spent a lot of time trying out different shapes of pasta, much to the chagrin of my mother who thought that they were all the same (they're not). Food texture is something that I assign a lot of weight to when deciding what I do and do not like, and it alone I think can explain why I'll be happy to eat a piece of steak but will avoid a hamburger at all costs. With pasta, I've tended to skew to the smaller shapes - mini shells, acine de pepe, tubetini, pastina, and the like, but each type has value depending on what you need it for. At the time of posting, I"m cooking penne pasta, which I'd give a 2/4 overall but a 4/4 on the "forgot to make dinner let's get something going" scale.

Re: fav pasta shape?
This is the best thread!
My favourite pasta form is sedanini rigati! After that come orecchiette and tagliatelle.
Btw concerning names:
Macaroni=>Maccheroni
Shells: yes this is the italian name (translated from conchiglie)
Bowties=Farfalle (butterflies)
Orzo=? Are you sure this is pasta and not a cereal?

I agree orecchiette are wonderful
Re: fav pasta shape?
What a life defining thread.
For me it depends on the dish though.
Penne and Farfalline goes with pesto.
Spagetti with tomato saus.
Tagliatelli with any creamy sauce. (voted for this)
Definately making pasta tonight.
Gnocchi.
However, technically not pasta. (it's potato based)

Re: fav pasta shape?
Being Swedish I must say that I am proud of Garja and Jerom's appreciation of fusiliers, but my preference unfortunately differs. I never was a real pasta connoisseur, and nowadays I barely even eat carbohydrates, but my first choice would be linguine. Sometimes I am actually not so edgy.
Pay more attention to detail.

Couldn't agree more with this line, and what you said about texture. 10/10

No, a square has all equal sides, rectangle has 2 pairs of equal sides.

Yep, that's what makes it a rectangle. A square must have all equal sides, rectangle doesn't

Re: fav pasta shape?
The definition of a rectangle doesn't say anything about the lengths of the sides, so a square is a type of rectangle where all the sides are equal. A square matches the definition of a rectangle.

No, they are both parallelograms but rectangles and squares are different shapes
