At this point I'd unfortunately place my bets on that this has merely been the beginning of a series of shootings before the storm itself. I am afraid we'll see a lot more of this type of thing in the very near future. Brace yourselves.

Implement gun laws and have proper gun education. Its not that hard - so many of these are unnecessary.

Still they think "guns can protect themselves".
Seems as if they can keep a rifle in hand for 24 hours and ready to shot back asap.

That was in stark contrast to the rapid and virulent response he had to the truck attack in New York last week, where eight people were mowed down by a driver inspired by the terrorist group Isis. After that attack, Trump called for a crackdown on immigration rules.

Typical.

An armed citizen killed the shooter though. I would say gun can potentially help in these situations

Sure it can. It's just that the net effect is a lot more deaths.

not really if you consider that if the shooter gets killed, the death toll stops. I'm not really into the gun debate, to me a citizen should be able to be armed to protect himself after solid background checks. I'll buy a glock as soon as I get a house and a family

@benj89 His point is that there are more lives taken than saved as a cause of ownership of guns being legal.

Ah my bad. Well I don't think the legal aspect matters that much, members of my family in France have a M16/shotguns/glocks.
Similarly, it's probably easier to buy weed in many french cities than in legal states in the US. Again my only opinion on this is what I wrote above, and that automatic weapon and w/e is being used to make some from semi automatic shouldn't be legal, that's about it.
People will always be able to buy weapons no matter what, and I want to be able to defend myself in case some dude wants to harm me or my family

if the shooter himself can't get a rifle, there won't be so many people killed.

Comes down to protection of the individual vs protection of the populace. I'm not necessarily arguing against gun control - I think it could do a lot of good, but it isn't such an easy debate.

The pure logistics of an outright gun ban make it nearly impractical to employ. It will take many many years (read: decades) to pass gun control legislation in America. Most likely you'll have to count on rural communities to keep dying and for future generations to become increasingly more liberal. Even then, firearms are crucial pest control tools in rural areas.

Also the NRA is doing some scary good outreach into new markets.

Well RIP 27 souls. Dying is scary stuff.

in the 1980s there're also many rifles, pistols spreaded in china.
and now, it's impossible for a criminal to get a gun now.
100% gun control is quite available. it's just the US doesn't want to do this, or they don't try their best to do this.

Of course it is possible. Take away everything from the people and you'll take away the guns too, but that's not really good, is it?

Its blatantly obvious that the starting steps of gun control need to be made.

How do we feel about firearms being allotted as a means to rebel against an illegitimate government? I mean, having that option seems nice.

200 years ago guns can help against bad governments. and now? fight the fighters/tanks?
we'll need some X-wing to do rebel jobs.

guns just help kill many more innocent people in modern society.
