Bernie Sanders next president of USA
Re: Berny Sanders next president of USA
that would be cool, at least one president would be uglier than the french one.
On a serious note, his lack of charisma and his ugly face will make him lose. We talkin abt america after all

oh wow I actually agree with almost every point he makes. He just basically wants to make the USA into a decent country. On the one hand I'd be happy, on the other hand that might mean the muricans could almost start seriously claiming they live in the greatest country on earth, which I wouldnt be able to stand lol.

Google is your friend
This guy is running on a platform of higher spending and higher taxes. He'll destroy the country if he ever gets into power. The last thing America wants is to end up like Europe.

I know what you mean but that's not what I meant. Hollande ('socialist') held the same speech but didn't keep his promises : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... enemy.htmlumeu wrote:Mimsy for President wrote:I'm sure he's an opportunist (we got f*cked like that in France).

It turns out that our main left-wing party has 'exactly' the same ideas as our main right-wing party.
Now regarding Bernie Sanders, the lobbies are way to powerful in the USA, no way he can get elected. And even if he were, he couldn't do sh*t (unfortunately).

Well - I dont agree with you Mimsy. The Big Companies can no longer buy presidents. Sanders has almost been neglected by main stream media - But today ppl get the message out via YouTube, Twitter. Obama was also not predicted to win, with same arguments you are making now. I think Sanders has a chance, and he is specially popular among the young ppl.
I hope for every bodies sake he will win - i would even prefer Clinton over the prospect of having Trump or another of the Conservatives as president over the most powerful arsenal in the world, is just sooo scary

To Laurence Drake: unlike all the other presidentual candidates: Sanders has a plan for finansing his reforms. You can check it in the link from Goodspeed above (if your interested??)

Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
Sanders is old and not very good looking which in the television area has not been great for candidates....Hopefully we'll see an exception here
Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
benj is telling you, hillary will prob win but not sanders
Obama was partly elected cuz he was black, hillary may be partly because she's a women, that's how america works. They vote for an ideal now that the crisis is gone. This sounds caricatural, but I was around when obama got elected, and I heard why people loved obama.
60%+ of voters (mostly middle class) don't vote because of the points he makes , but because of what they see on tv, the ideal he represents, 1-2 ideas they liked + the direct result from a well founded campaign through advertising and all that bs.
Not considering hillary has huge financial supports, many ppl still love Bill, bernie will be 75 next november, he's not great at debate, too "socialist" for america etc. Many other stuff add up, but his actual points are secondary in the end.
@iwillspankyou, imo you cannot possibly shine when you look that bad with 0 charisma. The genetic lottery is cruel sometimes

Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
Benj89: You argue that the financial crisis is gone?? Sure USA has more money now , but u should look to who got that money. Not the middle class - they are struggling even harder now. The growth has almost exclusively gone to the very very wealthy ones. The crises that is coming now, will be way harder and longer cos of the worlds eco. China is struggling cos they cant sell theyr cheep product to the west in the same quantities. And many other nations struggles cos China is no longer needing their resources (like iron, copper, OIL, etc). Just loook at the craziness thats going on at the worlds stockmarked. I agree with Sanders that the way out of the crises is to build up crumbling infrastructure and in that way, create more jobs.
For an European, like myself, its just so hard to understand how USA can let a whole town like Detroit, go down the drains. Half the population has left (the half one with money) and most of the skyscrapers are empty and are crumbling.

what I meant in this caricatural sentence, is that for most americans, the impacts of the financial crisis are gone, and they want someone that will represent America, "modernity", show that MURICAAAAA is #1 and at the avant garde of the world. No economic talk here, I'm not here for that.
I mean the average american is pretty much like the ear after all. Future will tell us, and I might be totally wrong

Trump represents the resurgence of the unconquerable American spirit. People don't support him because his ideas are realistic or logically sound. They support him because he challenges a global order that makes people ashamed to call themselves 'American'.

Pretty much this. Any surprise at the fact that Trump is doing well stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the traditional American mindset.

This idea, that many in the US keep repeating (and not only in the US), that you can get out of a crisis by launching big public infrastructure projects comes from Keynes. Keynes' ideas were blamed for quantitative easing policies too, which made central banks like the Fed inject money in the economy hoping that this way they will somehow encourage spending. Where did those money land eventually? In the pockets of those who own big capital funds and who do not create any economic value, they just make money from market arbitrage.
So, it's weird that Sanders would support a Keynesian idea, considering how much of Keynes' ideas are to blame for creating the crisis, in the first place. Deficit spending is another of his ideas. Either Sanders doesn't know economics or he's just saying any BS to attract voters. Once those big state projects are finished, the jobs created by them disappear too, they are not long-term, sustainable jobs.

Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
I guess alot of that is right Dolan. But the money should come from fair taxes, and not FR printing alot of new ones. And if there is a crumbling infrastructure, that should mean that a good portion of the jobs should be continued for maintenance ?!

Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
Yes, but that will not create jobs that will survive for more than a few years. Usually infrastructure projects are sub-contracted to smaller firms which finish a portion of the project, employing seasonal workers. Once the project is finished, the jobs are gone too.
Re: Bernie Sanders next president of USA
I think the infrastructure solution was pretty succesful in the Netherlands.
