The circle of Ossus and Ensemble Studios Motivations
I would like this thread to be about only Ensemble Studios and why they chose to take at least the first three acts of the game an make it about a stranghe cult. I think the game could have been better had levles been about actual historical events trying to deptict them as acuratly as possible.

I loved to play campaigns when I was kid.
I agree that many campaigns are wrongly designed.
Anyway AoE 3 is just more fun playing vs real players rather than playing campaigns, honestly.

The Circle of Ossus is just a metaphor for the Illumaniti, who were in fact controlling Microsoft and, by extension, Ensemble Studios at the time of the game's development.

All silliness aside I am more concerned about the about face Ensemble Studios took when creating the campaign. The other age of empires games were far more "historically accurate" or were at least about events of the time instead of revolving around a dumb cult.frycookofdoom wrote:The Circle of Ossus is just a metaphor for the Illumaniti, who were in fact controlling Microsoft and, by extension, Ensemble Studios at the time of the game''s development.

The aoe3 campaign is pretty terrible relatively speaking.

Try Total War if youre looking for something more historically accurate.

When you come from SCBW, WC1-3 and AoE1+2, Age of Empires 3's campaign makes a very negative first impression on you.

I just wonder what drove them to make such a terrible decision.

I''d imagine they thought Age of Empires was going to be a game for the kiddies.gustavusadolphus wrote:I just wonder what drove them to make such a terrible decision.

Not really. It was still marketed as a game for teenagers.hitlerdidnothinwrong wrote:Id imagine they thought Age of Empires was going to be a game for the kiddies.gustavusadolphus wrote:I just wonder what drove them to make such a terrible decision.
The ones which are certainly made for kiddies are the new freemium age of empires games...

Also I never got it either. Even in TAD's campaign which didn't include none of that ridiculous circle of Ossus shit they made that one Chinese campaign about the Chinese fighting the Aztecs.
Idk, maybe the aoe3 devs have a hardon for occult theories or something.
Reminds me of the history channel talking about aliens and shit instead of, well, history.

most of the time the history channel just talks about shit rather than history

I recall having enjoyed the campaigns a fair bit. Then I played the sc2 campaign in a 10 hour non stop sit and almost cried at the end and realized the aoe campaigns were probably shit.
