Wouldnt driving up the minimal wage increase unemployment?

Because thats what I see as the only reasonable reason for unemployment.

Well, that's one way to see it.

The article argues (and correctly so, imo), that higher wages mean that demand increases. Increased demand means more work, more work means employment.

This makes sense too. I make 100 shirts a month. I won't make a cent if no one buys the shirts. The demand (people willing to buy my shirts) is how I make profit, it's not how cheaply I can make them. If no one buys my shirts, then I don't make a profit whether it costs me $1 to make a shirt or $5. I am entirely reliant on demand and nothing else in order to make money.

It's simple logic which makes sense, to me. Inequality means that demand decreases, since people are poor, thus they don't consume.

However, you need to have higher wages for EVERYONE and this does sort of include not importing products made by Chinese (slave) labor.

How is it not about how cheaply you can make them, more people can purchase the shirts if they are cheaper.

Nope what I said was an argument point, Walmart is not totally parasitic as they provide so many products at a cheap prize so many people can afford.

On a worldwide scale, I believe low wages are good for the overall economy. It allows you to be very competitive on the market. The USA is one of those countries that benefits from low wages and low taxes. Its also one of the countries in which inequality thrives.

Increasing the minimum wages will distribute wealth in a country more fairly however, which is the interesting thing about it.

Im just sitting here wondering if adjusting the minimum wages can be a succesful way for a country to battle an economical crisis; The government needs to cut on its taxes to stimulate the economy, but cant do that because its struggling with its expenses due to the crisis in the first place. By reducing the minimum wage maybe you can pull yourself out of a crisis at an accelerated pace.

Im just openly thinking about a way to get out of a crisis effectively. If it works like how I claim it would, then the poor would pay for it which seems highly injust. Maybe one would need preparations where a pool of money is collected from the rich before, during or after, to compensatw for such unmoralty.

Economy is not a force of nature. The current economic system is built to benefit the few. So yes, raising the minimun wage is bad for this system.
Is this the system we want to have though?

Increasing the minimum wage isn't a straightforward fix to the problem, so many businesses actually have tiny profit margins and lot of overhead to take into consideration. It's a good strategy to let businesses compete for employees, which doesn't always amount to low wages-- like in the case of Costco where people actually like their jobs. I thought Walmart employees are getting a bump in wages soon also?

Anyway the presented article doesn't present any new ideas unless you've been living under rock. Left says higher min wage more money in folks' pocket they buy more stuff thus economy is stimulated, right says high min wage causes layoffs, inflation and less jobs as well as another encroachment into economic freedom.

I wouldnt want that system. It seems incog thinks raising the minimum wage is good for the economy though. The only thing of benefit I see in lowering the minimum wage is a first step in battling an economical crisis. Of course then its interesting to come up with compensating measures that dont limit the growth.
