Dolan wrote:Well, weren't many of their sultans and princes in the past pedos? Since they were in constant threat of being killed, they lived in closed rooms, protected by the influence of their mothers. At least that's what I've read somewhere, there was something about those Ottoman princes who lived secluded lives in closed rooms, because their mothers feared they would be killed if one of their brothers wanted to take up power. It was considered a norm back then, once you get to power, to kill all your brothers so they could never plot to dethrone you. So rumours have it those princes were more or less pedos, because they never developed a mature sexuality.

Then there were rumours that sultans, besides having harems of women, also had their favourite boys, so yeah it seems Turkey has some traditions in this respect.
Greeks and Romans used to have this kind of shady practices too back then, I don't really see your point here.

Could this be that the Turks suspect the USA was involved somehow in the coup and now they are sending them a warning showing the Americans what could happen if they wanted to remove Erdogan from power? Or maybe they're just trying to get their shit together before allowing for more USA airstrikes from the Incirlik airbase. Anyway, cutting the power from a NATO base is a bit too drastic a measure.

The US and Turkey have had to co-operate closely over the past two years as the US uses the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey to launch its raids on the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

But Turkey's ties with the US are more fraught now than 24 hours ago.

Fetullah Gulen, who Turkey blames for the failed coup, lives in the US. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said any country that will "stand by" Mr Gulen "won't be a friend of Turkey and will be considered at war with Turkey".

What's now being reported is that Turkey is shutting off access to Incirlik - and so stopping the US jets conducting sorties against IS.

The New York Times reports: "The move may reflect a desire by Turkey to control its airspace for a time today, as opposed to any shift on its policy toward ISIS."

There hasn't been any official comment from US officials, but we'll bring it to you if it comes.

Where's the theory and whom are you calling an idiot?

Is it true Erdogan has been clamping down on the press during the last years?
Did he seize an opposition newspaper (Zaman) and made it write positive news about him?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/ ... government

Were those who protested these measures beaten and teargased?
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... democratic

Freedom House thinks press freedom in Turkey is basically in freefall:
https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom ... 015/turkey

Is it true he has been pushing for more Muslim values in Turkey?
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2016/05/erdo ... mic-values
How is that democratic? Shouldn't state and religion be separate?

Is it true he wants to change the constitution and give more powers to himself?
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/11/a ... 01294.html

Yeah, sure, right now there are other urgencies, since lots of people died because of this coup. But those people died because of these reasons. The soldiers and officers who participated in the coup started the whole thing because they thought Turkey was going in a non-democratic direction and Erdogan was getting too Muslim for the leader of a democratic NATO country. That's why they fought against him, and that's why they lost their lives or they are going to be trialed for treason.

And Erdogan, instead of telling people to stay indoors, in their houses and protect themselves from bullets, he followed his political interest and told them to go out in the street, where the military forces shot them. If he was a leader who cared less for his position and more about the people he wouldn't have called them in the streets to protect his power. People died because Erdogan called them to protect his power. If they didn't attack the coup soldiers and the tanks, nobody would have died. But instead they took it to the streets to protect Erdogan's power and got shot. And Erdogan has no remorse about using them to protect his power. And, of course, you all think you "defended democracy", but you defended an authoritarian leader who wants more power for himself and wants Muslim values to prevail in Turkey.

What can I say, Turkey has the right leader that reflects what most of the people want. I don't understand why you guys want in the EU, though. Your values are completely different from European ones. You don't believe in democracy, you don't believe in the freedom of the press, you don't believe that the opposition to power should be strong enough to censor power abuses, etc. Just like other Muslims in the area, you like the material world of the West, the cars, the technology, the phones, etc, but you don't like the culture that created it.

It seems highly unlikely that this is U.S backed. It seems a lot more likely that it's Erdogan consolidating his power.

You really have a hard-on for this guy, eh?

I understand it's frustrating to have so many weaklings and muppets as leaders in the West, but admiring this guy who did prison for being part of an extremist Muslim organisation, who wants to build more mosques in the world, who wants a personal regime of power and wants to suppress any criticism in the press is just a symptom of Western decadence. You guys in the West have fallen in the habit of admiring strong hand leaders like Putin or Erdogan, ignoring that their "strong hand" leadership comes from backward and authoritarian cultures. If you want to live in such cultures, go ahead, get a Turkish or Russian passport.

You may disagree with these guys (which I do), but they are both very good leaders for their people. Chirac (our ex-president) wasn't a badass, a weakling nor an angel, but he was a quite good president imho.
Juncker is a badass too, I like him. Reagan was a beast and McCain would have been a very good president as well.

No. I mean it's a realistic possibility, unlike the coup being U.S backed. Turkish leaders blaming the U.S for it without any logic is "case in point" as far as I'm concerned – it only corroborates the theory I consider likely.

No, they died for their right to make kebab.

Erdogan is a well-known protector of kebab makers, together with allah and his sheep-fucking prophet.

How do you reply to someone who calls your posts idiotic, writing in a monosylabic, broken English, when you make the effort to bring arguments, provide links/proofs for your arguments, etc? Not the best way to have a discussion, eh, if only one side is arguing rationally and the other is just saying "huh, your posts are idiotic, hubba hubba".
I don't even understand wtf he is saying, what can you reply to that. Idgaf.
