ye sux... it costs 1000 euros to order in NL =_=
Re: New laptop
Been busy all day so I couldn't reply.
Imo, check the online Dutch stores or physical stores or any online store from the EU, since you're not gonna pay import taxes. The UK and Germany have big online stores.
Maybe you find some of these models below 1000.
ps. If not, maybe you could ask a friend from the USA to buy it for you and send it as a present. Not sure if you can dodge import taxes on that. Might be worth trying or asking around if a friend sends you a present, what happens with customs fees.

Re: Dell 7559
I think that was the first laptop I recommended if you wanted an affordable gaming laptop, on page 1 (viewtopic.php?f=183&t=9096)
So it has good specs but, as some people who reviewed it said, the keyboard flexes if you push into it, the screen bends if you apply force to it... that's what happens when Dell focuses mostly on internals and skimps on build quality and ergonomy. They probably thought if you buy this gaming laptop you're gonna bring your own mouse and maybe keyboard too.
But if gaming is not a priority, I'm not sure it makes sense to buy a laptop that is specifically built for gaming. If you want to get work done on it, like writing, editing photos, in this case having a good keyboard might be important. So better test it first in a physical store. Some people can be very fussy about keyboards (they want long or shorter key travel, they hate rubbery keys or they don't, they like to have bigger keys or more distance between keys etc). It also depends on what kind of hands they have, those with big potato fingers might not like keyboards with small keys.
Same for screen, if you're gonna stare at it for hours, might be good to be picky about how much luminance and brightness a screen can have at maximum. Also if you buy in a physical store, make sure to check the screen doesn't have any discolourations or weird bleeding.
Some like to have good trackpads, whereas others might not care much about it.
The Dell Inspiron seemed like a good deal if you don't care much about build quality and want specs, but if you manage to get it for under 800. If it's 1000, I'm not sure it's worth it.
Another thing: be aware that there are 4 different models marketed as Dell Inspiron 7559:

already looked into that, it won't dodge taxes.
Ye, I will mostly be doing writing on it i guess, but I have a seperate keyboard for the brunt work, and a mouse too, so I don't think I care too much about the trackpad. It would be nice if the keyboard was nice. Screen is important indeed, so I shall keep that in mind.
Buying from a physical store will be tough, mostly because pc-products are really quite expensive here, buying it online will cut 100 to 200 off the price. Specially if u buy abroad. I could still try in the store and buy online, i guess.

That guy is selling at half the price everyone else sells at. Must be scam or stolen goods right?!

Re: New laptop
ya my thoughts exactly too XD
anyway, I think i have learned alot, and I can probably make a more educated choice now. I will go to some stores to see/feel some real laptops and then buy one within my budget. I will probably settle for a gtx 940m or 950m. Most important will be that it has a SSD inbuilt and a good screen i guess.
Something like this Lenovo looks allright to me. https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/576929/ ... ificaties/
It supposedly has good screen, and it has a 256gb SSD. Also it's upgradable, so i can always put a better videocard in later.

Re: New laptop
could it be that the guy selling at 400 pounds is liquidating stock? I saw another low priced sale of the Dell 7559 which also asked to be contacted first before. So i contacted them and asked why they are selling at such low price, almost 200 euros below competition. And he said its because of stock liquidation. Is that legit?

Re: New laptop
Yeah but, otoh, I don't think he's gonna give you any warranty. You'll get the default Amazon 1-year warranty.
If you buy it from a shop you would surely get at least 2 years warranty in the EU. So, I guess, you get what you pay for.

Re: New laptop
Imo, they should give you an Amazon listing. The product must be listed on sale on Amazon to benefit from their protection and insurance.
Don't do direct bargaining with individual sellers coz you might get burnt and then Amazon will tell you they don't cover that.
But it's also possible that if they list it, it might get insta-bought. So that's why they propose reservation. Idk, maybe ask Amazon if such arrangements (reserving products then getting a sale order) are OK with them.

It turned out to be a scam. I reported them. Thanks for the warning still.
I think i've almost settled on a laptop.
Either this one
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/663457/ ... 359-qwerty)/specificaties/
pros:
better standard CPU
Has dvd player (just in case)
it's light
4 usb ports
bluetoot 4.2
cons:
ddr3l ram
worse keyboard (no mention of a backlit keyboard, but i'd be surprised if it doesnt have it)
worse screen
or this one
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/553089/ ... ificaties/
pros:
better turbo for cpu
it's also light
ddr4 ram
better keyboard
better screen
upgradable
cons
no dvd player
3 usb ports
bluetooth 4.0

Re: New laptop
I'd get the Lenovo, because it's a brand and doesn't have the useless VGA port. Instead, it has a WiDi port which is something more interesting, not important but still who needs a useless VGA port these days.
The Lenovo has DDR4 which has slightly shorter clock cycle times than DDR3L, which is better.
The CPU is also actually a bit better on the Lenovo, despite being slightly older (launched last year). The benchmarks show it comes on top of the newer Kaby Lake CPU:
http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cp ... _7200u-653
It could be because the CPU on the Lenovo is quad-core whereas the one on the Medio is only dual-core.
The only category in which the CPU on the Lenovo is inferior is on the integrated graphics, but since they both have the same video card, it doesn't matter.

ok cool. ill probably get that then. Haven't really seen anything else for the same price which is as good, besides the Dell i7559 but I can't get that in holland for a decent price.
Re: New laptop
However, I've heard that the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 is a much better model, which also has that great audio system and a metal case. It may cost more, though, https://tweakers.net/serie/5161/ideapad-y700-15isk/.
This is the one you chose:

Re: New laptop
yea i know, ive looked into them both, but the Y700 is 200 euros more expensive. it does have better performance for gaming and better battery and audio indeed. It's something im still considering, but im not sure if i want to spend the extra money...
Re: New laptop
Yeah it's going in the midrange level of prices but also of quality. At 700-800 you can expect an entry-level gaming laptop with not much focus on build quality, unless it has lower specs.

whats the benefit and/or disadvantage of overclocking or superclocking your videocard?
Re: New laptop
Pro: more power thanks to higher clock speeds
Con: you could fry your GPU if you make a mistake, and sometimes the risk is greater than the benefit (some cards don't get much from OC)

@Dolan
What do you think of these?
They all have kinda similar specs so im not sure if it matters much which one i take But maybe you got some insight haha if not, np.
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/665051/ ... eopard-pro)/specificaties
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/665051/ ... eopard-pro)/specificaties/ (its the same as above but with bigger screen)
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/658975/ ... ificaties/
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/653871/ ... 652-qwerty)/specificaties/
then alternatively, if do decide to spend less cash, I'm either getting the Lenove 700isk for €800 or the lenovo y700isk for €1000.
I might splurge some more cash on it after all.Dolan wrote:notification
