Re: hi everyone
How many players?
Why don't they play on ESO? Language barrier?

well
i'm not sure, the platform shows there are about 100 players everyday, but i think the true number is half or maybe 20% only
the main reason they don't play on ESO may be the Internet,China has Internet Great Wall so that we often cant join the games in ESO
and the language may be the second,i think

Re: hi everyone
Right, that makes sense. Thanks.
Re: hi everyone
the lag has nothing to do with the firewall.
also, the main issue is time, not language/lag. china's 8 hour ahead of GMT (and japan is 9 hours ahead).
a few years ago we fight the japanese a lot on ESO. but since most of them left aoe3, it's hard to find games on ESO at proper time now.

Re: hi everyone
Those number shows by the platform from Chinese version gameranger around 100 r tyre.but most of them r noob players such as against AI.i consider that the main reason they don't play on eso it's they r not willing to pay for legitimate game and the following vpn. It doesn't mean they r mean.if u think about that u put 100dolloars(the currents in ur country.)into a dead game within extras money for vpn(normally we need a vpn to pass thought the firewall.)it's not worth.
Re: hi everyone
i didn't get what you're talking about
"good" "competitive" "professional" players are rare on ESO too. there're always hundreds, sometimes 1000+, players online on ESO, but there won't be many quicksearch/1v1 games tho.
also AOE3 on chinese steam is even cheaper: 28 yuan (on sale, black friday) = 5 USD.
and AOE3 isn't banned in china. Lag isn't related to firewall.

but in fact 28 yuan isn't a large number,even 100 yuan isn't ,too
so "if i really want to compete on ESO" is the main reason?

Re: hi everyone
Well, that is under discount.normally the price is up to more than 100yuan.to be fair, when u r doing comparison,it shall be done by living standard not price.it does relate to the firewall."fail to join"links to IP address.when this problem still come out after u restart routes many times.it show that u r blocked by firewall.
Re: hi everyone
nope. "failed to join" just means heavy lag. if the firewall is working you shouldn't log in to ESO at all.

I don't think this is right.
Establishing a connection to the AoE3 servers and establishing a peer-to-peer connection with another player are very different. When "failed to join" occurs, it means the game was unable to establish a peer-to-peer connection to the other player. I find it very likely that China makes such peer-to-peer connections impossible, resulting in failed to join.

Firewalls works well on blocking YouTube Facebook ETC.but it doesn't mean it stop working on blocking other app

There's definitely good reason a government would ban peer-to-peer connections, however: peer-to-peer can be used for circumventing censorship. It's very possible that AoE3's peer-to-peer system gets blocked by accident as it falls into a certain traffic profile that is blocked for other reasons.
Most modern games don't utilize peer-to-peer connections for multiplayer and instead use a client-server architecture.
GameRanger or the aforementioned Chinese client would get around this by effectively using a special VPN to put all players on the same LAN network.
