Welcome @DArtagnan :flowers:

As you might have noticed already, there are some technical issues with the server; and unless you apply the community patch or a manual fix, you won't be able to play on the server at all until MS patches an official fix to the problem. While MS is trying to fix the technical problems with their, ahem, superb efficiency, please feel free to try out our community patch which provides vast improvements over maps and balancing issues, and promotes competitive gameplay.

I am a historian and a classicist (more specialised towards Roman and Greek histories) as well, graduating this year, so we should probably share our thoughts on certain parts of history at some point. Oh, and since EU4 falls on a similar time-frame, you might want to check that out and grab it during steam sale. And if you love fencing, you probably will want to try out Kingdom Come Deliverance as well. :P

Once again, welcome to the community. :flowers:

P.S.: To end with a quote like you did, here's one: "Ce corps qui s'appelait et qui s'appelle encore le saint empire romain n'était en aucune manière ni saint, ni romain, ni empire." - Voltaire, Essai sur l'histoire générale et sur les mœurs et l'esprit des nations, Chapter 70 (1756)

Hey man, thank you muchly.

Haha "superb efficiency".

Yeah, I have been using the community patch for online play a bit, but thank you. Those games look good, might check them out sometime.

I really do find antiquity very interesting too, I have the book S.P.Q.R. by Mary Beard, used to read a lot on that area.
But now, my focus is on the early modern period (1500-1800). Mostly on trade, war and politics of empire. Also the large connections in this period, through trade, with the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and the English East India Company too.

Nice Quote, Voltaire on the not so Holy Roman Empire ^_^ he was an interesting character to say the least!

The three musketeers is the one i'm talking about. Also nice that you go UEA , got an offer from them but went to Kent instead.

The book by Mary Beard is a good read for introduction to ancient Rome, but I find it a bit too brief to look for anything specific. I am kind of split between modern European history and antiquity, just that I focus more on ancient times. Mostly it is about politics, diplomacy and warfare, like the French Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, the rise of Rome, the Hellenistic Kingdoms, etc., and it can be interesting to spot any similarities and connections between the antiquity and modern world (as one may say, history tends to repeat itself).

Anyway, the ultimate finals are here and I have to do a bit of quick revision; but I sense that we are going to have a lot of historical discussion and debate either on this forum, or in private chat. We probably need to set up a history section soon :P

hleung Yeah I know what you mean about SPQR, good intro, but not deep into the subject. That sounds interesting, what you are studying, I did some work on Spanish Civil War and French Revolution in my first year, I enjoyed it.

Historical discussion sounds great to me! Would be great to chat about history at some point. Good Luck with the Revising.
