I would like to see the tournament being played on the blitz treaty maps, it would be way more fun to watch the games

Nooooo, practice games can be blitz treaty but tourney games should be TR40 (booms wouldn't really be casted, just fights). Reason being because a treaty tourney should test all treaty skills, and booming is a skill. A blitz treaty tournament should be like a gimmick, kind of like the starvation tournament for supremacy, more casual and lower prize pool. Which would actually be kinda cool now that I think about it, but still not a full blown treaty tournament.

Booming is not that much of a skill once you practise it enough, right?

Yeah some ppl believe it takes skill to make a proper boom but every 1.lut should be able to do so. Of course the top5 players can sqeeze out some points over 40mins but its really not interesting to watch imo.

The difference between top boomers and 1 lts-majors would be like 100+ points, a pretty big difference especially in mirror. You can't argue for a blitz treaty tournament being a true competitive treaty tournament, because booming has always been a part of treaty. Although it doesn't take much skill compared to other things in this game, there's enough finesse involved to separate top boomers from lower boomers.

What's the secret behind it? Just minimising idle villager time?

I can imagine that cowing could be a very large factor as well, right?

Herding hunts in and distributing vills among hunts and mines so that none of them are oversaturated. If a hunt is oversaturated it runs out more quickly and then you have like ~15 idle vills. Also trying to make the transition to mills and plants as smooth as possible only gathering on fully upgraded resources and obviously cowing adds more to it. It's pretty basic RTS stuff but it still adds something to treaty.

I'm not going to pretend that a treaty boom is an easy thing until I've gone and actually mastered it to the point of it being easy.

tbh a treaty boom is not hard. It's what you strive to accomplish in supremacy but without cav raids or anything else to worry about. It's about maximizing efficiency which is not hard with no pressure. The hard part of treaty comes after.

Tbh I'm entirely confident I can put up a boom score as good as the pros in a couple practice runs but obviously I'd lose hardcore in an actual fight.

Maybe it is that easy. But I won't talk the talk until I've walked it.

Obviously it depends on the civ, most euro civs have a very straight-forward boom which isn't that hard to pull off (hardest would be Brits cause of livestock). Of course every civ has some unique things (banks, SW, trades, etc.), but overall every decent player in sup should be able to have a decent boom after like 5-10 practice games with every euro civ except Brits maybe.

TWC and TAD civs are harder though, every one of them is pretty unique and you definitely need practice with them to boom well.
