Current Version: 1.7
If you've ever tuned into Saturday Smackdown, you'll have seen this absolutely amazing, incredible, fascinating, marvelous, prodigious, shocking, stunning, wonderful, unbelievable UI mod in play!
Been wondering how these guys managed to get their hands on this piece of wizardry? Wonder no more! For the download link is at the bottom of this post! Best of all, it's absolutely free!!!!11*
To install the mod, simply download and unzip the file to your desktop. There are two installation methods: automatic and manual.
For the automatic install, simply run the TAD Observer UI installer. (It may help to run it in administrator mode). Select your resolution, as well as whether or not you would like to install the maps, then click on Install. These are standard ES maps which have been edited for observer UI functionality. Note that the mod only works on maps which have this functionality.
If you don't want to risk some unknown program written by some unknown guy on the other side of the world residing at some unknown location causing unknown harm to your computer, you can instead install it manually. To do this, open up the "DIY Install" folder. In it there are several resolutions. Check which one you are playing aoe3 in (assuming it is in windowed mode), and then copy paste the uimainnew.xml file into your data folder, which may be one of the following two paths:
Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires 3/data
or possibly
Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Age of Empires 3/data
Once done, you will have successfully installed the mod.
Note that this file does not contain the ASC tournament maps, you will have to get hold of them by some other method.
Download (readme included): [attachment id="558"]
The mod does come with some side effects, however' most notably that you will experience massive framedrops when resigned, and so it is not recommended to observe on non UI-enabled maps while the mod is installed. To uninstall, either delete the uimainnew.xml file, or rename it to something like "obsmod.xml". To reinstall simply rename it back to uimainnew.xml.

What''s happening then? Game crashes?incog wrote:Don''t play this map with an AI spectating, LUL

Its nothing quite as game-breaking as that. Basically the invisible tapir (IGC Target) is deleted by use of a UI command that runs on each observers PC. If the observer doesnt have a PC (i.e. they are an AI) then the UI command (delete selected unit) wont run.tilanus wrote:Whats happening then? And people will be stuck attack-moving invisible units with infinite HP

+10000
Was wondering that too.

Just select 'Ekanta' in the installer.
You might want to make a backup of the old ekanta uimainnew.xml file though, just in case.

There''s actually an option for this in the installer? Amazingaizamk wrote:Just select ''Ekanta'' in the installer.

I realized that ekanta might not have it as a .xml file, but as a .xmb - I can't really remember. If you can't find a .xml file, then you don't need to worry about making a backup.
