Read this first:

Then use the links to get the AOE3ed utility.

Use the archive viewer to extract the Defaultkeymapy.xml.xmb then the file converter to convert it to an xml file. Save a clean copy of this file so you can revert to it if you make a mistake.

Open the file with a text editor and paste the code clip under Genera Game Hotkeys. Search the file for the keystrokes used to see if they conflict (control-k in my example above conflicts with "find bank" so I changed it to "\" on my system).

Copy the modified DefaultKeyMapY.xml to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin\data" if you have Steam or the appropriate folder if you have another version.

If all goes well then the game will start normally and the key you have selected will kill fat cows.

If all doesn't go well, and you see no hotkeys or the game freezes, then then you have made a mistake. If so, then delete the modified DefaultKeyMapY.xml file and the game will revert back to the stored one in the .bar file. If there is still a problem then delete NewProfile3.xml and let the game recreate it (this will revert everything back to default settings).

If all this seems too complex then don't mess with things.

Note: It's a world of fun to play around inside the game files but expect a few crashes as you learn things. I had to re-install the game more than once until I figured things out.

since metis failed to describe what it does, and if it indeed kills cows after they are fattem, it's borderline hacking +1, also this is something equal to which ( arien)888) ) has been doing, a simple code likes this which would make a cow from livestock pen everytime it dies without having to manually do anything ;/
