The ESOC team, in partnership with the Wars of Liberty team, is proud to announce that the Wars of Liberty mod's first official tournament will begin early next year, hosted right here on ESOC! The theme of this tournament is a little different from our usual matchups: the WoL team needs the community's help to balance the unique gameplay and varied civs and maps included in their mod. With that in mind, they want you to find the most overpowered units, broken strategies, and unbalanced civs so they know what needs fixing. We hope this will translate into a fun and unique tournament for longtime WoL fans and first-time players alike!

Signups will begin soon after the Autumn Championship ends, so be sure to use the time in between to download the mod and learn the unique civilizations, maps, and playstyles included in WoL! Details on the civilizations and maps, dates, prizes, and other information will be coming over the next month, so stay tuned!

We are also proud to announce that the Wars of Liberty Installer now includes the latest update and will create a new copy of your game installation if you would like to keep both your original game and the mod!

How to get Wars of Liberty
For new players
  1. Download and run the Wars of Liberty Installer. (Additional tutorial: viewtopic.php?f=414&t=13327)

  2. You should be ready to play!

For returning players
If you've downloaded the Updater since June 30, 2017, simply run it to make sure your game is up to date! Otherwise, download the Updater and run it. The current version is 1.0.9g, released December 17, 2017.

Alternative download options can be found on WoL's redesigned downloads page.

Prepare for the tournament
Be sure to view the information on WoL's website about each civ before playing them in game. You can also get a look at every WoL civ and some of the maps included in the mod by watching the Official Gameplay Videos on their YouTube channel, which feature nearly every civilization in the mod, or test them out yourself in singleplayer or LAN by downloading fully-levelled Home Cities from our site. The WoL team is also excited to announce that they will be releasing civilization overview videos narrated by ESOC's very own Interjection to help introduce players to the diverse civs involved in the tournament!

I heard you can't play Napoleonic Era properly when Wars of Liberty is installed, is that true? Do I need to uninstall one if I want to play the other?
Consider not the one who speaks the truth, but the truth that is said

:hmm: AoE logic :hmm:

Because the installer now makes a copy of your game installation, you can have WoL and any mod or patch you like, you'll just have separate files.

Hello!

You can't have both WoL and NE installed in the same folder, but you can install WoL in a separate folder, in case that folder contains a clean AoE3 installation.

If your main AoE3 installation is clean (that is, if NE is installed in a copy of the main AoE3 installation, instead of over it), then the installer will automatically make a copy of your main AoE3 installation and install WoL into that copy, if you chose to install WoL to a new directory.

You know it's an interesting civ when they can train villagers from their barracks and stable, but can't train military units until the imperial age.

They also have an interesting change villagers into OP musketeers card (Age IV), but it looks like that has been nerfed some since I last abused it (-50% HP to said unit).

Infinite shipments that don't cost anything are pretty funnu too. Also they can train military units in industrial

That's a fair question and I should add a note about it on the site. For others that don't know, the files should be placed in Documents\My Games\Wars of Liberty\Savegame

Hey gang! We've got an important message for all fans and those planning to participate in the tournament:

We've just released a new patch to fix an issue that was causing CRC mismatches between players with the new installer and the old installer. To get this patch, simply run the updater included with your WoL installation. There should be a shortcut on your desktop, or otherwise it can be found in the folder containing your age3y.exe, in an executable named "Wars of Liberty Updater - v1.4.exe." If you do not have it, it can be downloaded from our website Players who used the new installer and those who used the old one both need to run the updater, including new players until we are able to release an updated installer. Thanks for understanding!

Just to let everyone know, the installer has been updated, so new players will not have to update their games as long as they installed on or after January 5, 2018! Enjoy!
