The purpose of the WoL Cheese Hunt is to find cheesey strategies that need to be patched, and boy, did you guys find one. Japan's cherry orchard gather rate was a known bug but it has made the civ powerful enough to be nearly unbeatable when used by an experienced player.

With that in mind, for all matches in the RO16 and beyond, Japan is banned as a civilization option. Please inform your opponent if they accidentally select the civ, and please also don't be a dick about it when you do. That is all.

I don't know well how Japan has changed from TAD to WoL, but does this mean Japan is stronger than Zulus, or Iroquois on TP maps?

But ofc. It all comes down to the cherry orchard bug honestly and how quick they can put out skirmishers, shagumas, and guntos.

I've been told Zulu can counter Japan, although every report I've heard in the past few weeks has been of Japan winning a match.

So japan is banned because of cherry orchard bug? I have no idea which one? Obviously hunting is giving more food/s per villager isn't it?

When it comes to cheese i was thinking you guys banned Japan because of this youtube video:

It shows a cheese build without building more then 1 villager (total of 7) getting a 2:50 age 2 time with daimyo and 2x 11 sophei shipments hitting opponents base around 4:30. The pikeman have a nice siege damage ofcourse and 22 pikeman will do the trick of getting down baracks or stables and tc without to much of a problem.
