Today at Gamescom 2017, Microsoft made a few huge announcements regarding the Age of Empires series. First, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will be released on Thursday, October 19th. The game is a remake of the original RTS from the series which was released 20 years ago.

In a second bit of great and unexpected news, the stream ended (almost) with an announcement that in addition to the defenitive edition for AoE1, both AoE2 and AGE OF EMPIRES 3 will be getting a refresh. That's right, Age of Empires 3 will be getting a update! Discuss it here!

The biggest news of all of course is the announcement of Age of Empires 4. Little is known at this time but certainly the trailer hints at perhaps a continuation of the march through history that the first three games in the series have undertaken. Discuss AoE4 here!

Some notes:
- n0el made this post to farm likes
- I am unbelievable happy and just cried for 15 minutes straight. This is the best thing ever to happen
- The trailer uses a surprising large amount of aoe3 artwork. It's not a blizzard tier trailer though.
- It's funny how microsoft complete denies the existance of aoeo both in the trailer and by calling this aoe4 and not aoe5 or something
- I hope it won't be pay to win or have any of that shit.

some additional notes:
- i shed a couple of tears too
- the "what works and what doesn't" of multiplayer gaming has only become more fleshed out as the digital age has grown (i.e. p2win sux)
- i doubt this thing is even in production yet

My only fear is that AOE3:DE will actually be called AOE3:The boats still lag edition.

No way! we'll be needing some good new maps for the aoe3 : de as well

It's kind of odd how I mark my life and my time spent on this earth by major video game releases. Like, "oh fallout 4 is coming out next year let's try extra hard not to die before then." And then, "nice, we made it, good job body." I suppose I do this with movies and albums and books too.

Relic Entertainment is making Age of Empires IV, the studio that is known for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.
