Slightly unusual FTJ problem
Good Evening all,
For years now I have been running AOE on my Mac via a Windows Steam Wineskin (Crossovers) with no FTJ issues at all or any issues in general.
However, this weekend for some reason I cannot join any games and get the FTJ message. No changes to my Mac or Router for that matter. Is there any suggestions how I might fix this?
Could my ISP have updated my router remotely in any way to block this?

Yes, it's possible.
You can try circumventing the issue with a VPN; the one we mostly use around here is https://windscribe.com/, but not sure if it works on mac.

Hi @EAGLEMUT - I will investigate trying it with a VPN.
It is all so bizarre, considering how flawlessly it was working prior to this weekend. I fear that my 11 year + time on AOE is coming to an end.

VPN should work, plus you can always schedule your games with friends on alternative platforms, like GameRanger or Voobly.

Ftj issues, at least the ones I deal with, are separate from the ESO platform, i.e. I still get them on Gameranger.

I would say that's rather unusual — my case, on the other hand, shows that I can connect via Voobly or GameRanger with no problem while getting FTJs on ESO.

wut. I guess its because mine is a ports issue.

Re: Slightly unusual FTJ problem
Update:
I have done the ports and it doesn't seem to have changed anything. What works is that if I restart my Mac and log into Steam and ESO straight away sometimes I can join a game, sometimes I can't (50/50 probability) of those times I join a game 50% go the full distance no problems (then I can't rejoin another game after) 50% will let me join the game, start the game but then I will get network issues 10sec to 90sec in the game where I drop.
This is really bizarre and feels like after 5 mins a router setting chimes in and cuts me. Any ideas on this?

Re: Slightly unusual FTJ problem
Have you tried the µTorrent hack to keep ports open? Sounds like something that could help you.
Pay more attention to detail.

Voobly actually never has FTJ problems unlike GR and ESO
