EP lags RE does not
EP lags RE does not
I've been having some issues with EP, namely lag. For a couple of days now I'm systematically having lag on EP, though, often when I play RE, it runs smoothly.
I'm really at my wits end here. It's the same game, right?
Not that I have a great computer, but if RE runs smoothly, why not EP?
Any suggestions would be welcome...

There is a chance your PC runs RE with dedicated GPU and EP with the integrated one.
Re: EP lags RE does not
Are you actually talking about lag (internet connection issues)?

Internet connection would arguably lag both, right? So I don't think it's that.
Thx, @Garja, will check it out.

Re: EP lags RE does not
I don't think you understand me – or peer-to-peer networking. If one player has performance issues it will cause freezing for all players, since the other players have to wait for it to catch up. Although some might predictably call it so, it would not be lag, since lag is a connection issue; not a system one. The reason I'm asking in the first place is to figure out whether the issue is with the connection, or with system performance.Asateo wrote:zoom wrote:Are you actually talking about lag (internet connection issues)?

Do you see what I mean?
Anyway, it's starting to look like a performance issue.

Hum, since I only have unboard GPU. Impossible that's the problem. Just played a game with Dutchlucifer who said he has had the same problem also.

Yea ep has issues. Most of the time when I load it up I get a "program is not responding" pop-up and have to wait for a minute or so before it starts responding again. I don't think it's my computer as I have a very good computer and running aoe my cpu is always below 25% usage.
Re: EP lags RE does not
Well... At least I can stop worrying on what it could be on my end.

Re: EP lags RE does not
yeah my tourny games on EP were also quite laggy with little freezes
Re: EP lags RE does not
...and that wasn't the case at all on RE?
Re: EP lags RE does not
I've wondered for a while why my game takes about 20x longer to load EP maps
Re: EP lags RE does not
UI maps do take longer because of the extra code. Normal EP maps shouldn't take much longer. Some maps take longer because some objects are coded in a less efficient way (e.g. forests).

Wish we could track down what precisely causes this. People have had these sorts of problems forever, and I don't fully understand what could cause it.

Re: EP lags RE does not
I initially thought Ep was lagging for me too, but today I switched to a cable wired connection and I don't feel any lag, so I don't know what to think
Re: EP lags RE does not
A non-UI ESOC map such as Adirondacks takes me about 4 seconds to load on EP, while the UI 2.2 version takes me about 8 seconds. Gameplay smooth, unless I'm playing a lagger
I do see the Not Responding pop-up sometimes when stuff is loading, which appears to be a difference in behavior from RE (though I don't feel the loading to be slower than on RE).
I'll attempt to do some testing on different computer setups to see what might cause this.
Some general stuff I'd recommend to try and see if things improve:
- toggle windowed mode in game options
- set compatibility mode to Windows Vista SP2 on age3f.exe (or age3t.exe for Treaty Patch)
- set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3 on age3f.exe (or age3t.exe for Treaty Patch)
- unset compatibility mode on age3f.exe (or age3t.exe for Treaty Patch)
If you feel there is a specific ESOC map that loads more slowly than others, point it out and we can take a look. There might be bottlenecks in the map script to fix.

Re: EP lags RE does not
I don't understand. So ep is lagging for real with wrong setting? I thought it was lagging because I had a wifi connection...EAGLEMUT wrote:Great, glad to hear that!
Re: EP lags RE does not
I had the same problem and solved it yesterday, according to Garja's method.
Right click on desktop, and find "NVIDIA Control Panel", and then set EP (age3f.exe) as the same GPU as RE's (age3y.exe). Before the change, age3f.exe was set as using integrated one, which renders your game laggy

RE will also lag with the wrong setting. Thing is, the "wrong" setting isn't same for everyone.
