When I try to go online now, I get this error:

I tried to install the latest patch (here) because I remembered it could be a reason why this bug happens, but I get the same error:

I also get a full black screen now when I launch aoe, because I switched to windowed mode. So I can't even switch back to the full screen mode since the screen is frozen and black, without even a cursor and no sound. Can't close it without going into the task manager and ending the task, where it shows as "not responding".
I should mention I've had other bugs before, and finally I got this bug. So yeah I've tried to reinstall aoe like 3 times already, and I did some other stuff that I can detail if needed.

Since you can still launch EP, you could switch the fullscreen mode there.

Now everything works fine, except I still have this issue:

That's really annoying for me. It happens on RE and nilla, but not on EP. So essentially I'm stuck in full screen mode when I'm not playing on EP, and this sucks because my comp then needs like 5 seconds when I alt tab back into aoe. Everything also feels slower and more buggy in full screen mode, and I can't see my aoe in the background when I'm tabbed out (so for example I can't host/queue a quicksearch and tab out to do some other stuff, because then I won't ever see if I find a game). That just makes it really boring and annoying to play on RE.

Anyone knows how to fix this? The bug showed up with the last windows update.
