Different in-game language

Is it possible to change an in-game language without reinstallation? If so, how to do that?

I don't think so since you can buy the game on a specific language depending about where are you from

From Ovi12:
"On steam it''s very easy. Go to your games library, right click on age of empires 3, and click propreties. There you will find a tab called "Language", from where you can select it. The only problem is for some reason it takes a long time to install as if it''s installing the whole game all over again."

If you don''t have the steam version, you need to find those xml files I believe

(It didn''t remove any of my settings/saved games etc. when changing)

Oh, thanks, I guess I missed that thread. I have an original version of the game however, not a Steam one. So I need to replace those .xml files that were mentioned with the ones in the language I want to choose?

Yep, make sure to save your old ones as a backup first though, in case something is wrong with the new ones ')

And a hint, generally the AoE file names look like this:
file.xml = vanilla
fileX.xml = TWC
fileY.xml = TAD

The file you are looking for is called stringtablename.xml for nilla or stringtablenamey.xml for TAD.

It should be there if you don't have steam

Thanks, @Rikikipu , it worked! I didn't do that back then but yesterday decided to get interested in it again. I found the files and then asked my friend to send me his English ones.
