Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
So here at school, the internet is configured in such a way that I get "fail to join" when I try to join most rooms. I have no way to try to configure the internet correctly/forward the right ports, which seem to be the most common solution for my problems. I have a few friends that use VPNs on the network, but no one uses them to game on. Would using one help me to get around the router issues? Thanks to anyone and everyone that can help!

Yeah, VPNs (not all of them) solve FTJ problem.
Re: Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
Yes, using a VPN can solve FTJ, but may also cause severe lag. I guess you'd just have to try it to see if it works, maybe someone around here has tips on solid VPNs.

Well i don't use it anymore cuz I changed my provider but it helped many people. It's free. It slows down your inet but if you have pretty good speed it won't be a problem.

Yes, yes, it's the one Nice King recommended, I've been using it for quite some time. It's not even laggier that much, but perhaps that could be because I'm in Warsaw, so I can have a server somewhere nearby. But it's 100% legit. :)

You guy just helped me save a friend in college
Re: Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
Colleges are stupid to ban gaming. It's not like there's a reason you shouldn't be able to relax after classes.

They dont ban gaming, all of my friends can play most other games, it just has to do with how picky ESO is about your internet settings. I think it has to do with the fact that Aoe is player-to-player connection, while most other games have a server in the middle. I think they just want to negate any possibility of hacking or someone compromising the network through a breach or something.

Re: Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
Well at my school steam can only be launched in offline mode, I haven't tried playing any games but Ive just assumed that all the ports commonly used for gaming are closed. Can't use a VPN either.
Re: Using a VPN to bypass a incorrectly configured router?
Thank you for telling me about the VPN! I used it today, and there was a touch of lag (due to the server I think being in france), but nothing too bad for 1v1. I played a 3v3 and there was some crazy lag, but IDK if it was me or my teammates.

Now that me and @Darwin_ can't use the VPN tool from http://vpntool.com, can anyone recommend another good one? I tried TunnelBear today, but couldn't connect with ESO :(
