Is this port-forwarding right?

Post by yoqpasa »

I'm having a lot of FTJ problems at my new house, I tried to fix ports but not sure whether or not I'm doing it properly. If this problems keep going I will be forced to quit aoe3. So, can you guys check my screenshot?

Port-forwarding does not always work.
Use VPN.

Yep, it's correct. Assuming that your PC has a static local IP of 192.168.1.102

If the above is all true, and it still doesn't work. You might have a router/modem before this one, where you would need to forward the ports to the router, so that it can forward it to your PC. Either that, or your ISP is blocking it at that point. If you want to know more, I made a post on this a while back you can check out.

Good Luck!

Only reason to consider a VPN is if the ISP is blocking his ports, and won't unblock them. The best solution at that point is to find a port that isn't blocked and override them in the user.con file, or startup flags. Otherwise it's mostly just making the situation worse, and making horrendous lag for his opponents.

Port forwarding always works. Just most people miss some important details, or don't change the port to someone the ISP doesn't block.

I've had more success with a better wireless internet device than with port forwarding. It seems as if port forwarding is a placebo effect rather than something that helps.

I would compare port forwarding to taking that multivitamin you found in your grandparents medicine cabinet that promises to increase your health by about 5,000%

You may be the most intelligent person to ever post on ESOC that I've ever seen.

This guy is looking for legitimate help. Could you please not troll on this thread? Unless you have something helpful to share, do not post, this is only making the matter more difficult for everyone else.

I wasn't trolling I'm talking about what has helped me from personal experience. I have NEVER had any positive results when I port forwarded that I have seen but when I got better internet and a wireless connector then I rarely ever fail to join now.

Why so many threads about this, just make one with a guide about how to fix this issue. Yoq, like I suggested in another thread, try to enable DMZ

download this and use it to check whether the ports are correctly opened(use the free trial): https://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm You can also use an online checker although that can only check tcp. Are you sure that you don't have an extra router/modem blocking your ports before the data gets to the router that you forwarded?

Ok so I installed the app, tested 2300 and 80 ports and it says this: http://imgur.com/a/P2tF2 .So this means the routers are not open but why? What should I do?.

I don't think there's anything between my pc and my router.

Yeah you are right, there are many threads but none helped me, that's why I'm looking for a personalized aid.

I just enabled DMZ and nothing changed, but thanks.

Try click the button on the main menu of the program to the right of the 'port checker' called 'router detector' to make sure there is nothing else blocking the data.

Wow! Looks like you might be right. http://imgur.com/a/FDoDU

The thing is my new router is wireless, only connected to power. I guess it gets signal from an aerial or something like that, how can I fix it? Thx a lot man.

try to connect to the other router by typing in 192.168.225.1 into your address bar.

Just to clarify, you have over the air or satellite internet? And only one device at home? Then according to the router detector and information you provided, this causes the same issue as the Dual-Router issue I made a post/guide on in the past. Except for the fact, that you have no control over this device. You can either call your provider and ask them to open ports 2300-2310 TCP/UDP.
Or, you can override your port to one that is open (which I suggest doing).

Guide:

Step 1: Put your PC in the routers DMZ (only 1 address can be put in a DMZ at a time)
Step 2: Open the port checker again, but this time look for a port that is open (try some above 6500, if you have trouble).
Step 3: Now that you've found a port that can be opened, take note of it for the steps below.
Step 4:
  • Browse to the My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\startup
  • If there is not a user.cfg file then create one.
  • Open the user.cfg file with a text editor; like notepad
  • Enter OverridePort="[the port number I told you to take note of]"
  • Save the file and close it.
Step 5: Remove your PC from DMZ

You should now be able to connect to 99% of lobby games on ESO.
