Painted Desert and Yukon
These maps are listed under "Standard Maps" as fixed maps, but both of them are the standard RE maps. The hunts/mines are still very uneven. I played a game today vs Aizamk on stream and I only had a starting hunt on PD, there was no herdable hunt. In the same stream Aizamk played against a guy who had no hunt on Yukon. Are these maps even fixed at all?

Yukon is fine imo. It is pretty consistent and you need to fight over the hunts because they are mostly in the middle. That guy Aizamk played against just herded very bad.

Not fine lol. Unbalanced hunts and that 5k coin mine only for one player.wuangaga wrote:Yukon is fine imo. It is pretty consistent and you need to fight over the hunts because they are mostly in the middle. That guy Aizamk played against just herded very bad.
But I''ve tried Yukon and it seems more balanced now, usually 2 mines for each player (2nd bit far), no 5k mine and better hunts.
Check California too, now tp route is along the right side.

Yukon and PD are indeed previous fixed on previous FP versions.
In particular, Yukon has more starting trees, a 2nd hunt of 6 or so animals (instead of only 4) and a relatively close 2nd mine. Other resource should also be placed more evenly.
PD is probably very similar to the RE version which btw is pretty much always balanced.
California is partly a new map (from fp 1.3).
Andes is fp1.2 version and is also balanced.

Painted Desert and Yukon
I had an opponent spawn on PD with no starting bison at all earlier today.

I don''t agree with PD always being balanced. If I recall correctly, Painted Desert had to be rehosted 4 times in _H2O vs Blackstar. I haven''t played california and andes yet so I can''t speak for those.
Regardless, I''ll just be rehosting my games if I have no hunt on Painted Desert for now.

Sorry to revive an older thread. I am curious about this here. Is the California map on EP the one Neuron and I edited for the Mac FP? Or is this a different map?
Re: Painted Desert and Yukon
Time to get rid of these shitty maps once and for all.
Or simply completely remake them, as I understand that it's easier and the results are better than trying to actually fix maps.

Re: Painted Desert and Yukon
It's honestly harder to try and rebalance the ES maps than it is to completely make a new map from scratch. I found you run into a lot of conflicts on the ES maps causing something basic not to spawn properly sometimes.
EP is doing it correctly. New highly balanced maps are the correct direction to go. Rebuilding the ES maps from the ground up would be the next step. Followed by adding new image sets and background images to the new maps.

We are currently working a little bit on PD at the moment, i don't know, maybe we will do some balance changes so. But when you got a balance issue in a game, please take a screenshot. Then it's better to figure out what's wrong and how we can do to afford this.
Haha, yeah, it would be nice to have some new images

That's easy to do with just some photoshop. It's the time that it takes to do it that is killer... I wouldn't mind investing the time to do so. Won't happen till I get my computer but would give the maps a far more professional feel.

I'm good with Photoshop. I could possibly give it a go if you wanted?
Re: Painted Desert and Yukon
Ye it would be awesome if you could change the images so that they displayed the right boundaries of the region and the right name. The boundaries can usually be found with google images.

Re: Painted Desert and Yukon
While we are on the topic of maps...
One of my big gripes watching the streams is the constant fiddling around with the custom maps trying to find the correct copies of the observer maps. Seems cumbersome and it makes the streams look unprofessional.
Has the team considered making an observer map set native in the patch? It'd make the observer maps more accessible to lower ranked players and far less cumbersome to select than they currently are. And the patch auto updates so if updates to the maps are made they'd automatically update for all players.
This is something we did on FP 1.3 and worked pretty well.
