High Plains

Post by Papist »

Am I the only one who thinks this map is highly imbalanced? It has a ton of food and trade posts, making any sort of defensive play hopeless, and any aggressive Fortress-style play OP (you can go full military and still have a powerful economy behind it). FF civs, the ones that least need a buff, just go to town on this map. As such, I think it should get removed from the ESOC tournament map pool.

Well you do need to adapt to the map with appropriate stategies and in some cases, appropriate civilizations.

I just hope DE is not going to implement all of the EP changes. Right now it is a big clusterfuck.

Im just a bit sad the tp cancer map had to be a great plains variant. Couldn't we have raped another map :p

I honestly think 3 TPs is the most that can be 'balanced' with 200w TPs.

having lots of TPs isn't necessarily imbalanced

if there's a balance issue, it goes to japan itself for being too slow / unable to have enough presence in the very early game to contest the TP line

france on the other hand becomes king of high plains since they have such an excellent early game economy

This is not coherent. Map is perfectly fine, even tho you must consider the trade route of course, just like on other maps you consider preminent features.
That said, the map will be probably replaced in tourneys just because we have tons of new maps coming.

And rofl at those who cry about 5 tps strats. As if 5 tps strat is any viable.

I don't know if it is one of the best. I personally don't consider one of my favorites but still can't stand people crying over stuff that is borderline troll.
Seriously if you let the opponent troll you with 5 tps you just deserve to lose.

God I'm tired of people bitching about this......Every single map gives certain civs advantages, so I don't know why people chose this one to bitch over. Tibet, cascade range, Bengal, and Baja California are all unique maps that cater to different play styles just as much as high plains does.....

It's more balanced and more competitive than Tibet or Cascade Range.

agree... every map in game favors some civs, and people have to deal with it... since always lol

and the qs argument inst really a valid one, since qs has never been balanced due to MU / Maps losses... and I dont really think that it is even remotely possible to make qs balanced... there will always be bad maps/Mus when blind picked.

lets just make sure the map pool is diverse, with some maps favoring some civs and its fine..

I think HP is a great map, but it has a TP or two too many as far as current balance is concerned.

One of my favorite maps. When I am in doubt, I always choose HP, almost like in RE patch, most straightforward and logical choice. Only thing that could be subject to change is tp number. With 5 tp's there is no need to fight over them, which makes a bit easy.....

I think the funniest games I did were on high plains. The food is fine, I don't think you really have a ton, just 1 bison + 1 deer in base and then a normal amount over the map. The tp line can be broken for some civs I think, like otto silk road, or nat civs shipping the 3 tp thing, but every map gives advantage to some civs so it's fine. Saying the map should be removed because the tp line is op for some civs is like saying a no tp map is up for some civs so it should be removed. You could also remove water maps, because they give the edge to some civs, etc.
