Brave Web Browser
Brave Web Browser
Ok, so I have talked about privacy with OS (Linux topic), I have talked about messagery privacy (telegram topic). Today I want to introduce Brave :
https://www.brave.com
What Brave does :
- Ad blockers built-in the browser
- Better privacy management
- Faster than other famous web browsers, especially on desktop where it's literally a sky-rocket.
So, what's your favorite web browser and are you going to try Brave ? What do you think about it ?

Re: Brave Web Browser
What makes it different from Chrome with an ad blocker extension exactly?
Dromedary Scone Mix is not Alone Mix
Re: Brave Web Browser
It's a better out-of-the-box browser in terms of privacy with things such as DDG and NoScript. NoScript is probably too cumbersome for most people that they'll end up disabling it right away anyway. There is really no way to achieve even a decent level of privacy if you aren't actively trying to do so. I'd advocate for privacy by talking about the different aspects of it rather than briefly promote a privacy-browser to people who never even thought about achieving privacy.
I recommend that people visit GNU (and FSF) and familiarize themselves with what free software is and why privacy is important. The website also has a plethora of examples of common proprietary malware, and here is the one specifically about Google (for purposes of staying on topic).

I think the most important two questions are:
Is it easy to use?
Is it actually factually faster? If so then why would it be faster?

Re: Brave Web Browser
Chrome is my favorite browser, but I try to avoid using it because google is an abhorrent company. In all technicality I would say that firefox is better than Brave; but I don't really like the layout of firefox. The fact that it opens a new tab when you press mouse3 at the top is also annoying. Brave is okay, and I use it alongside chrome, but it's definitely not a top-tier browser; I still haven't figured out how to block all ads, instead of just "invasive" ones.

1) I find it easy to use, but that's rather subjective because I don't know what you exactly call easy. What I can say, is that it shares a lot of code with Firefox, so a lot of features of Firefox can probably be found on Brave
2) Definitely, it's faster because it doesn't download and render the massive amount of adds you can find in most web pages. Note also, that the dev team behind the project are really competent people, like the creator of the JavaScript language for instance.

2 things : - I find that adblocker extensions slow downs your navigation. For instance, I have a lot of issues going on Gmail or Maps with Firefox and UBlock Origin extension
- Adblockers can also be paid by advertisers to not filter their add, such as AdBlock does.

I don't know about the RAM, I thought it as lightweight. About speed it really should be better.

Good question, I don't know. I think there is a compatibility with chrome and firefox extensions, but I'm not really sure.
Re: Brave Web Browser
It also takes a bit more to open than chrome. Page loading is fast but doesn't seem significantly better than chrome. I think at the moment chrome is just more optimized and with a slightly better interface (they're pretty much identical but chrome has some marginal improvements).
