Age of Empires Campaign Speedruns

Interjection, Aizamk, H2O and Bramboy did a speedrun of act I from the Nilla campaign last week. I tried to beat their time, and managed to beat The ottoman fort in 4:45. Much faster than the previous record. I think I got it close to perfection. I got help from @edehollandsbrother. If you beat my time or did any speedrun yourself, feel free to post your screenshot or strategy here.

The screenshot says it's 4:47, but time the TC got destroyed was 4:45. The game ended like 10 seconds later, because Morgan has to talk a bunch of crap.[img]http://i.imgur.com/kob1JCZ.jpg[/img]

You don't count the alleged time at which you destroy the Fort.

The card for 8 xbows arrives too late to be of any use - because I win before they can actually walk over to their base.

That doesn''t change anything. You count the time at which you win the scenario. It''s very simple.

^^^^ you dont count winning from when you complete the last objective, but from when you win the actual scenario lol

The timer disappears when you have won so it is more consistent to time it this way if you're only using in-game timer.

Yes, the timer disappears maybe a few seconds after completing the last objective. Anyways, the exact time is not the most important thing until somebody almost beats it.

actually it shouldnt matter whether you count from the end of the last objective til the end of the actual mission as the time from the last objective til the end will be the same for everyone

If we start caring about speed running that much then you would need a VOD to prove ur result.

What about the first scenario - Breakout? Has anyone tried to do a speedrun of this particular mission? ESO has been down since Monday evening so there is some time to put some efforts in that. My best time is 6.19. Hunting dogs and placer mines at the beginning, I tasked some vills onto coin mines and created about 15 rods. Then I put them near the coast in the south to hide them there along with 8 starting pikes and Morgan. I continued crossbowmen production and at 4.50 I sniped one of the bombards with my little melee army and moved my 12 or so vills to collect the wood crates on the hill. When the rest of the bombards arrived, I just killed them with my whole army. The last one was destroyed at 6.19, the scenario ends a few seconds later of course. I think you can do it faster, for example by sniping all of the bombards right after they spawn with a big mass of rods, but I haven't tried it yet. I know it's quite difficult because every janissary and spahi automatically focuses on the nearest unit so rods are under attack for most of the time.
What is interesting though is that you can actually snipe that galley which flanks your base from the west side with your pikes standing on the coast.

It doesn't help that much in this scenario, it's useful only when I have to move my vills directly to a firepit on the hill.

Why are so many people doing speed runs recently? I hear the casters talking about them on Saturday Smackdown etc. Are they really this fun? I've never played the AoE3 campaign.
