Tribal Council

So, on your opinion, what is the best order to pick Tribal Council members for each of the Native American civilizations? Now SHOULD be when I post my own Tribal Council order, except... I find myself changing it around a lot. The only thing I am at least somewhat consistent with on this regard is t...

Re: Help a noob

So, if ANOTHER noob may ask for advice... I am confused: So is France good competitively or not? Because I always remember finding Cuirassiers + Skirmishers a really strong, hard to handle combination, especially if the game ever makes it to the Industrial or Imperial Age, but...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

Well, you can disagree of course. This is all just my personal opinion how I would play the civ. The Yabusame might be a crappy unit, but 1) you can build it without sending a card, 2) you can afford 2 Yabusame for the price of 1 Yojimbo (both pop/res-wise) and 3) Yabusame are upgradeable to guard/...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

I just feel that comparing Musketeers to Dragoons or Ashigaru to Yojimbos is kind of like comparing apples to bananas. There are certain tactics that one can do that just wouldnt be viable as the other. Well, what else would you compare to Yojimbos? In the end, you can only make a unit comparison b...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

I still just dont think it is fair to compare a heavy infantry unit to a light cavalry unit, when both are more suitable to different roles and circunstances. And, on the case of the Yojimbo, the comparisson becomes even weirder because the Yojimbo-Itself-Plays very differently from other light cava...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

... Okay, seriously, I just dont get it. Am I the only one who likes to have the option to train a anti-cavalry unit that is fast enough to chase cavalry down or to run away if things get dim, and that, unlike the Yabusame, can actually hit decently hard?

Re: Troll/turtle warrior villies strat iro

Warrior culture could have been incredibly OP if it has been a Discovery Age or even Colonial Age shipment. But, as it is a Industrial Age shipment, it is rather useless in my eyes.

Re: whats the civ ranking on the official (non esoc) patch

I dont like Organ Guns... I mean, I honestly do not understand what is their advantage over Culverins suppose to be. So, I guess we agree on that. ... On most of the games I played, if it does gets to the Industrial Age, Culverins are common due to their ability to counter other artillery while stai...

Re: whats the civ ranking on the official (non esoc) patch

I can't do the math because I don't have the exact numbers for villager training time and age up time, but iirc it takes roughly 10 minutes for Port to overcome other civs' villager count, and even longer to develop a meaningful lead. So yes, while the TC bonus is good; the lack of villager shipmen...

Re: whats the civ ranking on the official (non esoc) patch

On water maps, Portuguese economy is actually pretty awesome. On land maps, it is... Well... I think that how fast they can produce villagers during the Colonial Age sort of makes up for inability to ship then, though... Yeah, it depends. The Portuguese certainly do not like to be rushed, at all. Th...

Re: whats the civ ranking on the official (non esoc) patch

I dont get what is so bad about Portugal. They have a slow start, admittedly, but being the only civilization that gets a free Covered Wagon on the-Colonial-Age speeds up their economy majorly. I am not sure if I would call the Dutch "The worst" civilization.... Actually, it is really hard...

Re: 2v2 strategy need

As others mentioned, War Wagons can also be very usefull on this scenario. War Wagons have bonuses against both the Naginatas -And-the Falconets, and unlike Uhlans, they actually have a lot of HP. This is one of those rare cases where you can use light cavalry as the frontline if your army if you so...

Re: 2v2 strategy need

I am not sure of what you are doing wrong if Naginata Riders are killing your cavalry... Naginata Riders are actually mediocre against other cavalry... Tell me something: Are you plaiyng the cavalry upgrade cards as the Germans? Uhlans have fairly mediocre base stats, but the Germans have a whole li...

Just for fun: What would be the AoE3 counterparts of each AoM civilization?

Now, first of all, for those of you who played Age of Mythology and this game, it should be pretty blindingly obvious that this game took a lot of hints from Age of Mythology( From subtle things like pathfinding, to more obvious things like the association between the politician systen and the Minor...

What is the best civilization at the following strategies: Rush, Boom, and Turtle?

... So, yeah, the title explains itself :p. I will give my own personal two cents: Rush: Sioux. Like all Native civilizations, they are quite fast to go to the Colonial Age, what is obviously a plus by itself. And, of the three, they have some of the best raiding units on the Colonial Age: The Bow R...

Re: What is your favourite( And least favourite ) native civ alliance?

But naw, id probably go with Cherokee and Cree as the best, just cause theyre skirms, which would be a really cool strat idea for civs without skirms that like age 2 play, like brits. Also, the upgrades from both are pretty solid. Worst is harder to say, cause there is some merit to all native alli...

Re: What is your favourite( And least favourite ) native civ alliance?

For Colonial Age standarts, 200 food is ridiculously expensive :p. It is indeed much cheaper then Mahout Lancers though. Anyway, on the Fortress Age, the cost does becomes much less of a limiter, but unfortunatelly, it is very vulnerable to light cavalry. More so even then other heavy cavalry due to...

What is your favourite( And least favourite ) native civ alliance?

I originally wanted to make it into another Top 5, but it proved harder then expected. Truth be told, how usefull a native civ actually is depends majorly on what civilization you are plaiyng as, what civilization you are plaiyng against, and the general map, to name a few. So, it would be kind of l...

Re: MU of the month: Spain vs China

Consulate does add up over time, yes... But... Re: MU of the month: Spain vs China

Generally in this matchup isnt china going to simply use meteor hammers/iron flails to 'counter' the lancers? As lancers just arent very good against other cav? Also would this be a good matchup for that 7 steppe rider shipment simply for siege pressure should spain go for ATP? Well, I often suppor...

I see. What would you recomend I support Urumis with? I mean, normally, heavy cavalry is best supported with either light infantry or light cavalry, but the Urumis... Well, they -Are-Light infantry :p. With their main "hard" counter being heavy cavalry, then... Zamburaks, maybe?

Re: MU of the month: Spain vs China

The "Units I just cant use" thread.

Hey there! So, I wanted to make this thread to discuss some units that I do not consider as necesserially bad, as I have seen other players use then for great effect in recorded games, but which-I-For some reason just seem to consistently fail to obtain good results with. I was hoping some of you co...
