Re: My Initial views on Mexican Balance - I_HaRRiiSoN_I
Yeah. The fact is this game is 'dead' competitively and has been 'dead' at least in terms of 'normal' RTS numbers for a long long time now. There's a little bit life in almost everything, and sure truly passionate people will continue on, but it's never going to be a game where balance is a particul...

Re: Natives, viable or waste of time?
They are usually inefficient per cost, they are limited in number, they have different upgrades (in cards and in research), they require map control to maintain them, your opponent knows you have the tp. The list goes on and on. The techs are situationally good depending on the map and your civ, it...

Re: Natives, viable or waste of time?
Mostly a waste of time. The problems they have are too numerous and far outweigh the benefits. Which basically boils down being popless. Re: Viva le Mexico!!! New DLC
the community that kept aoe3 alive all this time This is what some people like to believe but it's not true. This community kept competitive aoe3 alive. I would guess that community is maybe 5% of the total community. In the aoe4 scene, EGC's Genesis tournament was dwarfed by an FFA tournament that...

Re: Viva le Mexico!!! New DLC
When they add Romania (or Wallachia) I'll return to AOE3, lmao. That would definitely be a better choice than Mexico/US. And there could be badass homecity shipments like a stack of poles to properly send a message to the Ottomans. Also a lot of options for allying mechanics, e.g. with the Austrian...

Re: Viva le Mexico!!! New DLC
I think having Mexico when the Aztecs are in the game is a bit off. It is different to USA vs. Lakota and Haudenosaunee because even today, the native population percentage in Mexico is a lot higher then it is in the US. 15% compared to 2% and more self identify as indigenous. It’s complicated, like...

Re: Official AoE4 First Impressions Thread
Honestly? Not a fan, I’m still playing aoe2 and 3. It could just be that none of the starting civs appeal to me but there’s a lot that just doesn’t sit right with me. How the game is played, the UI, hotkeys, this one sounds odd but the map design feels off and things like how hunts work with scouts ...

Yeah us is closest. They’ve still got iffy things but they are closest to the base design.
House factory and one/two unit spam is not or at least should not be aoe3. Still annoyed about Inca, normally like being them in other games but they are so wrong to play with and against.

Re: Hausa & Ethiopians Indefinitely Banned
Nope I agree. Even though this decision was made before the patch was known it still stands up well after it. The nerfs aren’t sufficient IMO and there’s still a lot of underlying problems and things yet to be discovered because one option was so much stronger, there’s a lot of other things that are...

Re: Update 43871
Why are people bitching about a new civ being announced? All in all, amazing patch in the right direction. Because most people on esoc don't like fun and new things and would rather just play the same game that's been out since 2006. Eh even me who likes new things and taking the game in fun differ...

Re: Who is the best Hausa player?
It’s sad really cus the design isn’t bad (unlike Inca who are my favourite culture in the game) it’s just completely broken. I will probably play Hausa when and if they get nerfed into the ground, especially if they get to keep shadow tech nats (though everyone should get this with blood brothers ha...

I think what they refer to is how both the vanilla ai and this one current sends massive amounts of villagers to resources beyond what is safe but I know you are well aware of this issue. Admittedly though I’ve played a few games where this was far more pronounced then I’d seen recently to the point...

Tens of thousands is an exaggeration not really. theres probaby 10k unique players that play within 24 hours (not concurrent). Not sure how many of that play multi tho. Based on numbers I looked at during legacy just before DE and numbers from 10 years ago, both times it was approximately 10% of pl...

Re: Cooperation, is it worth it?
It’s worth noting that the vill must be working a resource to get the trickle. This means builders, idles and the community plaza do not get anything. May be worth it for an FI with Lakota if you get old ways which helps a lot of good techs and a few support cards since their time and cost is reduce...

Re: Better AI Mod
Just a question... dose this mod help on AI as an Allie? More often than not allied Ai will do nothing but gather. The core issue is that both the default AI and this one simply plays some civs better then others. Though I did notice that the AIs who are allied are more likely to synchronise attack...

If you’ve got Akan natives and a Swedish/Finnish or some other ally who can provide more/infinite gold mines maybe. Under realistic circumstances, no. At that point you might as well use Aztecs with Aztec mining for ridiculous gather rates. Edit: Oh so it does work for everything? Need to test this ...

Re: Legacy Tournament - sign ups and info
I don't really agree so much that this format makes it more "competitive" (although... civ draft rules were not great last tourney), but the live casting should make it much more fun to watch since the playback speed will be normal and there will be no trolls in the chat who already know ...

It's not a discussion I want to engage anymore, I remember the old threads very well and it's not like anyone is going to change their pov. I'm just not enthused that a staff member feels the need to muck this topic with their trolling. It would have been so easy to just not. The thread is about co...

Yeah, I think many people are just totally done on this topic and done being civil about something as basic as human rights and treating people and groups as they like to be treated. I myself don't bother anymore. I've given up long ago and accepted the general intolerance and 'I don't care about pe...

Re: ESOC abandoning AOE3 when AOE4 comes out
It's premature to say such things about aoe4 without knowing the type of game it is, or it's appeal. Especially considering so much of it is geared towards luring aoe2 players rather then aoe3. Personally I think aoe4 will fail to appeal to both and both bases will merely return to the game they lik...

Re: ESOC abandoning AOE3 when AOE4 comes out
I will be very surprised if this happens. AoE3 is its own unique niche which appeals to some and repels others. AoE4 will not fill that niche at all.
Considering how 'left in the wilderness' legacy AoE3 was, I doubt anything in the foreseeable future would cause ESOC to abandon AoE3.
